update from Louies back yard (Padre)
Homeies –
Quick update from Padre. The winds have been unusually low here after the hurricanes. Ive been getting teased with 10mph winds. They received lots of extra rain. The north flats flood out real easy. So theres not much dry ground. One of the locals said that dolly washed out some sand from the flats. So not sure what the long outcome will be. The kiters have been using the south flats. There is a lot of work being done on a lot of the hotels that got hit by dolly, So a lot of workers rented out the lower priced hotels. Which brought the demand up a little higher than usual. Therefore justifyng the high prices.
Until next time,

Gary,
Hopefully I can find some wind to bring down next week. Youll just have to SUP till then. I'll be there sometime next Thursday morning. I'm psyched.

Been riding the last couple of days down here. Yesterday was gusting to the low 30s. (Advil breakfast this morning) Hopefully we can get out today too. The water level has started to drop. So most kiters are using the north flats now. The sand is real damp thou. Lot of guys down here from the west coast. I’m guessing there’s about 50 kiters down here right now. Louies back yard is the biggest bar on the island. One dollar margaritas on Monday and Tuesdays, and a half a rack for 6.95 on Thursdays and Sundays. Last weekend they had there music fest on the island, 50 bands. Good time!

I got here to spi at just the right time. Yesterday was so much fun on gulf side. I got to do downwinders yesterday and today. This afternoon was lighter but when the tide was rolling in around 4-5 pm the waves were sweet by the jeddies even though it was 14m.
The coolest thing was I was out there and saw something big swimming - then saw the dorsal fins - at first I thought yikes shark. then I remembered there are dolphins around and sure enough there were 3-4 dolphins swimming around. It felt like they were playing on the same waves I was. time for more advil for snack time...

Friday morning was the first time in 9 days I've been down here there was no wind so my non-kiting wife was celebrating.......... we enjoyed a nice long walk on the beach and I actually laid down by the pool and relaxed/recovered (I'm not one to sit much). Then around noon within 5 minutes the wind switched to n/ne and increased to 15-25 mph. Some rain moved through while we ate lunch and then we were treated to an afternoon of 20-30 mph ne winds.
Judd, Diane, Terry Daniels, Katie, and I had a blast riding the large waves right in front of where I was staying (at sea breeze resort). I first tried a surf board and had quite a rush blasting down some waves but ended up a little downwind. the wind was so strong it took a lot just to walk back. I switched to a fuse like board and had quite a rush riding down some of those waves. it was cool seeing Judd and Terry carving and soaring some big floaters. My wife took some pictures and video from our 3rd floor balcony I'll have to post when we return.
After a couple hours in front of our place we did a downwinder to the jetties at sunset. It's hard to imagine finding a better place in the world to enjoy something like riding down waves like that endlessly. As we were finishing there was a group of others that did the 14 mile downwinder. Where else in the world can you do that?

Re: update from Louies back yard (Padre)
I decided to rent a board from air padre for 100$ for 5 days. I figured that was less hassle and most likely less money than trying to bring boards down.
Before I left I talked to a supervisor at sun country and she talked to someone at the checkin who said they would charge for an oversized or overweight bag.
When we checked in at sun country I asked the guy there the same question and he said we make exceptions for golf bags (opposite what the supervisor told me). I think our deceiver bags are longerthan a typical golf bag. I think your rolling the dice.
Shipping stuff would be a decent alternate but you need to do that well ahead.
Looks like more good wind for downwinders today and tomorrow. Too bad we're leaving tomorrow but tough to complain with wind everyday. I plan to do a dawn patrol session early tomorrow - renting the boards makes that a possibility.

Got in around 11am today, got out to the water and... Nuthin. Not gusting up much past 9 mph... Forecast looks dismal until late wednesday or thursday.
Still, it's not freezing rain OR cold! Go Padre!!
