High Wind Gear ?s

I met a bunch of you at Waconia this past Sunday, and you might know I could not sail because I did not have small enough windsurfing gear.... I am used to light-wind sailing, and my smallest sail is a 5.7 Northwave, and smallest board is a 105L Seatrend Accelerator. I will need some smaller gear for when this happens again and when I move out to OR next year... A couple questions...
- Any tips for gear I should get? Will you have any for sale this winter for cheap?

- What size of mast does a 3.5-3.7 regularly rig on? A 4.0-4.5?

Anything can help. I WILL be looking for a couple sails in the winter/spring time in the 3.5- 4.5 range, as well as a boom to fit them, and a mast (one if possible otherwise two) again cheap, but not old! I want to be picky since I will want them to last me for a while... A board possibly as well, around 70-80 L, but I already have an offer that I will do before any others...

Any tips, info will help, and if you have anything for sale in the near future, email me some info and a couple pix! Thanx

There's not alot of used high wind gear in MN. You'll find a better selection Oregon.

I recommend spending extra on quality booms and masts as they should last forever, and easily outlast your sails.

Sunday I was thankful that nobody purchased my 2.9 rig which I've been trying to sell. The 2.9 rig included a 370 mast in excellent condition. In the spring I may be selling a 3.6, 4.6 and 5.6 as well.

Anyhow, check the manufacturer's web sites for sizing info. You'll find sails in the 3.5 to 4.5 range require either a 370 or 400 mast.

Used high wind gear cheap is not easy to find around here. I agree with TV - take some time to check out all the used Ezzy sails at http://www.windance.com - especially if you're trying to go on the cheap. They're out in the gorge and offer up good deals on durable sails.

I have two 400 cm masts and use them on the following sails: 4.5, 4.0, 3.5 and 2.9 Getting a 400 is probably your most versatile option - the only downside is that on the smaller sails they don't rig as well on the 400. They usually rig up much better on a 370 or even 340 for the real small sails.

Boom-wise carbon is really nice but if you're on a budget it is tremendously difficult trying to find a good deal on a used carbon boom. Also, opinions vary but in the smaller sizes the aluminum booms ($99 demo booms at Bigwinds.com) perform quite well.

Thanx for that info. Anything helps, and there have been others who said to wait until I move, but if wind like that comes again, I NEED TO SAIL!!!! That is my reasoning, and I actually found some good deals at Hot Sails Maui on closeouts as well as other local sailors, so when I get the money, I will decide now or later.
