I like this quote:

"I would totally try it if someone said, 'Here's the equipment, I'll show you how.'" she said. "I'd probably fall down and die, but whatever."

rad!

And doctors don't believe the benefits of kite traction sports are worth the risks.

"I think you can get adrenaline rushes in other ways," said Ho.

What is happening to this country? America is turning into a bunch of pussies! Helmeted pussies!

Personal Freedom

Post by Rich v »

I am all for personal freedom, but put the Doctor's words in perspective. Looking at this from a purely financial standpoint, it costs society more to have a lot of thrill-seekers running around hurting themselves.

I never used a helmet windsurfing and I didn't consider myself reckless. I would have felt very bad however, to have gotten hurt and have pulled an ambulance crew away when they could have been helping somebody with a greater need (somebody with a heart attack or in a car accident).

Your comment might have been meant as hyperbole, and if so please disregard this post.

From my viewpoint: "It is better to have kited and been injured than to have never kited at all"

My view after one year of winter kiting is that the danger level is comparable to other more 'traditional' sports...i.e. Football, Hockey, Skiing, Snowboarding, ETC. The only difference is that you need to be more aware and use common sense. Kiting seems to be a common sense sport...let your guard down for a second or two and you might pay for it. PAY ATTENTION: RIDE SMART: DON'T BE AN IDIOT!! and just have fun. Live to Ride, Ride to Live.

~~My experience is one season on a 6 meter kite. 20-25 sessions. Everything self taught. 0 injuries, 0 fatalities, 2-3 times looking like an idiot to spectators, but thats cool too. Gotta look like an idiot sometimes. Keeps us honest.
