I'm new to kiting. This summer I picked up a 4.5m ozone imp to use as a trainer kite. I chose that as I wanted something with 4 lines so it would be similar to setting up a bigger kite. And also big enough to pull me around in the winter a little.
I've had a few, what I would call less them successful days, trying to fly this kite. Mostly due to my ignorance. But all learning days.
Yesterday was awesome. If finally all came together for me. I was able to set up the kite by myself. And fly it for well over and hour with no problems. I actually felt as though I had control. I flew through the power zone and out and was able to keep it up in the safe zone without looking at the kite. Even relaunched it after the wind died for a moment.
I'll be out there again today practicing some more and hopefully taking some lessons in the water next year.

Just make sure you get out on the snow this winter with a pair of skis, learn to snow kite.
Then book your vacation for going to South Padre Island TX in April and learn to water kite there. I've decided it's far and away the best way to learn to water kite. In a week you'll learn what would take a whole summer here, especially if the wind next summer was like this year.
I would second Steve's advice. Trying to learn to water kite in MN can be tricky and South Padre is a great place to learn! Plus you get up and go kite when the wind is up, so plenty of practice time in nice shallow waters.
Yep, it will change your life!
Rock on
