any recommendations for a waist harness?

Post by Rookie Renstrom »

Any recommendations for a comfortable waist harness? Ive been using a diaper (seat harness) just looking for a little more freedom. It looks like riding toe side would be easier. And is it recommended to wear a rash guard underneath? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Gary ~

dude, go with board shorts. i just converted and cant say enough. They are comfortable, good freedom of movement and i feel secure. I have a waist harness which i've tried a couple times. It felt awkward ridng where the the pull came from, uncomfortable and no matter how tight it was, it would ride up. I suppose that all depends on your body type and harness design. That's my recommendation Rookie :P

You gotta see if you can borrow people for a 30min or so. I have a liquid force harness that is pretty comfy. I have also heard rave reviews about mystic (warrior?) harnesses.

Different ones feel different on different people :)

I second the mystic. Awesome comfy, and your right about toe side. Just ask Hunter.

I fourth the Mystic harness. It has been the most comfortable harness I have every owned. Its more expensive but well worth it. I am not built like a wedge and it never rides up.

I picked up the Dakine Starlet Shorts which I wore for a few hours this weekend.
Although I did like how much more freedom I felt compared to my Dakine Tempest seat harness, I found them uncomfortable for long periods as the straps would rub my inner thighs. I think I will have to wear them with something underneath that would stop them rubbing the skin.
I will try them again though because Heather keeps telling me how great they are :)

The dakines supposed to be over shorts or wetsuit. I'm surprised you can walk if you wore them against bare skin. You're one tough cookie Michele.

What's the news on the knee?.

Tip for blown jumps....as you come in to land if you think you're going to wipe out lift your feet up and go in butt first. Enough of your body hits the water to break the fall without going deep, the board stays on your feet, and you get a free enema.

haha! free enemas are wonderful; i've had my share :P

anyway, i don't wear anything under my dakine shorts and havent had any issues. Although, I do intend to find some type of shorts to wear underneath.

I have recently become a convert to the DaKine Pyro (waist harness). I started kiting about a year and a half ago using a seat harness (Pro-Limit), great for starting but never really loved it (probably a hold over from preferring a waist harness for windsurfing). Most of this season I used the DaKine Nitrous shorts/harness. These felt significantly better than the the seat harness but still no love. For my last two sessions, I've used the Pyro waist harness and loved it. The lower body freedom is amazing and it was relatively easy to get used to the different pull from the kite and body position. There is slightly more pressure from the harness around/below the ribs but this is a small price to pay for the overall better feel. I'd guess this is probably less of an issue for taller riders, I'm ca. 5'8" and not so much a wedge shape. It will be interesting to see how the Pyro feels on the snow...

Buena suete.
