surfboards?

Post by Jeff G »

I've never tried kiting on a surfboard but it looks like fun. I noticed Extreme Air has some for sale, but I don't know anything about them. Anybody have advice about size, shape, or brand preference? I guess wake-surf boards work too.

I'm heading up to MIll Lacs tomorrow. See you all up there.

I just started to ride one, I'm no expert. I fell back on the windsurf experience and looked for an alround shape.
I can tell you it's fun, they seem to plane really early and gybings going to take a little while to nail.
A nice variation to riding which just adds more amusement.

Jeff. I just had a look at the site and stroh has one of those LF boards, it's nicely made a good alround shape, he like it a lot.

I'm only learning to fly a kite but have been surfing for the last 3-4 years. I would think for the average person a typical shortboard style with a thruster fin setup would be ideal for kite use. As these boards were designed to be used on more powerful waves (kite provides the power in this case).

The ones for sale at the extreme air store seamed to be priced very well to me.

Good luck

you will love the LF surfboard. I have the 6'0" and its all I ride in the surf. this is my 2nd surfboard so I don't know much about surf boards or surfing... but it gets me on the waves to where I'm no longer using the kite... you just have to try it.

I ride a Hyperlite surfboard with deep fins. I am on the back of the board when I need control and I am nicely powered, edging the board pretty hard. I am closer to the center when I am underpowered, riding the board a lot flatter. The no strap experience is really nice and gives you an added sense of challenge and freedom to experiment on the board.

Ride in the shallows first cause there's gonna be a lot of face planting.

I've been dying to try one out - haven't had a chance yet.

I've heard mixed reviews about using a surfboard also as a light wind board - thoughts anyone?

Jeff,

I'll bring my surfboard this weekend. You can borrow it if you want. There's one fin missing and I'm gonna see if I can get it ordered. You can still ride it powered while stomping on the tail.

Thanks everyone for the advice, and thank you Denis and Jon for bringing surfboards up to Reddy. I've decided not to get a surfboard right now. If we had waves to ride I think it would be a lot of fun, but since I rarely make it to Duluth I thiink I'll wait awhile.
