Advice on swimmer's itch.
I spend my week-ends at Malmo and have only had it once before I learned what to do.. I also have kids in the water and they have avoided it. The sectret is to stay wet and to towel off thoroughly when you come out of the water. An alternative is to rinse off with other water.
For those who pride themselves in never falling off their board, take frequent dips. As much as possible, keep the kids away from the weeds.
This phenomenon is new the last couple of years. I hope it is due to the low water of the last three and that we get some rain and run-off in the next year.

You actually get it from dead snails and duck crap, the parasites burrow into the ducks they take a crap and there you go, the ducks swim mostly around and in the weeds, so when they crap they cling to the weeds until another host goes by. Once you feel a little itch in the water they are already in you, towleing and other water won't help those but the ones that have not gotten into you you are right, fresh water and towle off right away. I'm not even going to get into the water at Malmo anymore unless I wear my wet suit, Reddy does not have them, mostly Malmo, it's where the ducks hang out.

I got bites everywhere my wet suit was not. How about something like vaseline - will the little buggers be able to get through that stuff? Anna was mentioning something about sunscreen with bug repellent added.

I'm still going to head to mille lacs - it's worth a few little bites. I would like to try Reddy though and see if it makes a difference.

Wed. and Thurs. really good.......so far on iwindsurf. Any other sites forecasting this??

I got bumps all over my legs. I was doing a lot of walked around in the shallow water.

I have heard that sun screen might help. I had some on sunday but not sat. Maybe we need a few guinea pigs that will put sunscreen on one leg and not the other :D

Maybe a 1mm wetsuit... or even a spandex full body suit

I was at Malmo on Sat and my legs are a warzone despite toweling off vigorously after exiting the water. From what I've read some types of the parasite can enter you while you're still in the water so who knows. I'll be back at Mille on Thursday and I think I'll try greasing up my legs with a deet/petroleum jelly cocktail.
