Father Hennepin on Saturday?

Post by Coach »

The wind direction is looking NW to NNW for Saturday, and 25+ for mid-afternoon... Sounds like ideal conditions for Father Hennepin.

Who's up for it? Dave Z? Others?

I'm heading up for the Crossing, but not to participate. Figured I'd help out for a while then ride the afternoon wind. :-)

I may be in. Are you heading up today or tomorrow? If it is N-NW I think Izaty's is going to be better (ie more flexible). I've looked at a compass from the beach at Fath H and if it went north we'd really be screwed. My cell is out so I need to borrow my wifes (651-253-9571) tomorrow. I'll try to call your cell to touch base and see which spot to hit.

Bill and I are talking about hitting Father Hennepin as well. Nothing like those big rollers. Cell 651#428#4121.

I was thinking about it too. My first non-WBL session since the baby arrived. :)

It won't go that North, according to all predictions. NNW is about as far as it will go.

Excellent!

I'm gonna ask/beg/plead and do whatever it takes to make it. Last time I sailed Father Hen was about two years ago by myself on a 4.0. It would be awesome to have company, wind, and waves up there.

My 2 Cents.
The best wind and biggest swell on Mille Lacs is in the middle of the lake. Izaytys is the best way to get there. Parking is pretty limited though.
Lots O' parking at FH.

I'm pretty sure I'll be joining you guys. I know exp. doesn't show straight north but I was implying that N-NW is even too far north for fath H, you can probably sail there but it would be much better going from Izatys or even Hunters Point. The 48 hr exp shows N-NW @ 4pm when the biggest winds are predicted. Look at the map of ML on the dnr web site and see how far down in the corner Fath H is and how much land there is to the north and a little to the N-NW. N-NW from the beach is almost pointing to the point off of hunters (or whichever point that is on the east side).

I sailed Fath H last summer once and had a blast. I realize we have to consider parking and if you guys are kiting you need to consider other factors too.

I'll check in the morning and hopefully it will be windy up there wherever we go.

Scott, Bill and I are going to look at it tomorrow morning, before leaving and when we get there. If it is too north we will go to Izatys as well. It's just too good to pass up if it is lining up right. We'll even take a session on both if the wind shifts.

hope to see you there. our eta is about 11:30

Hmmm, ever try Hunter's. Better lanch and great Starboard ramps.

I've been to Hunters many times. If there is too much west in the wind it's choppy. If you can get out in the middle it's great. It looks like it's going to be straight NW today so it should be good. I think.

the forecasts are all over the place in terms of strength. Some say better south and west, but there really isn't anything down south that is good NW, and the front is north.

I still think it is the call. Lighter winds on Mille Lacs usually are better than winds anywhere else. ETD 9am
