Madeline Island

Post by shera »

Heading up to Madeline Island this weekend, hoping to get some kiting in if there is wind. Anyone have any suggestions or tips on where to go up there. I read John's experience up there on Chat Bay, might be hard for me to get out there.

Plan on camping at the State Park and the City Park!

Have you ever tried Wisconsin point in Superior? 8) Check out Port wing on your drive out...the Duluth crew goes there when winds are West. There is also a nice beach on the western outskirts of Ashland. Looks like it would work on any direction but south. Ask the locals about any hidden underwater obstructions. I've never kited it, but it looks great. Hope you have a good trip...How about a report on any new kiting spots you find up there? JRN

Don't forget a DRYsuit!

THere is a big crescent-shaped bay (Big Bay?) on the west side of the island, I think - would be beautiful if the wind is coming from that direction. on the northest tip of the isalnd is some nice sand, too.

Was skunked last weekend, but plan on trying it again the weekend of the 4th. There is a great place to kite on the south side of Long Island. Waist high water for a 100 yards or so and warm water too.

Anyone interested in joining me up there for the 4th, let me know. If it is blowing, it will be sweet!

Hi Shera, me and some friends are actually heading up to the Apostle islands over the weekend of the 4th. We are camping on the mainland in the Redcliff indian reservation. The group campsite there has it's own private sandy bay so I might bust the kite out there or take your advise and try out long island. looking at the satellite images it does appear to have a prime stretch of shoreline. I'm bringing my jetski up there too, just in case we get into any trouble. I'll keep my eyes out for ya :)
