Carpooling this summer

Post by Tighe »

With gas prices going through the roof, I thought there might be a way to easily coordinate carpooling on Lakawa. I could create another forum just for carpooling. Then we could have Rides Wanted and Rides Offered listed. We might want to determine some kind of standard format for the postings. Not sure if this would accomodate the rider who is always looking for the ride to say Mille Lacs. Unless he posted each week he'd/she'd get pushed down in the thread list. Maybe the Topic Title could be a common format like this.

Wanted/Mille Lacs Reddy/Saturday 6/11/08
Wanted/Duluth/ Anytime
Offered/ Mille Lacs Malmo/ 4/3/08

It would be relatively easy for me to go in and delete the posting that are no longer relavant (outdated)

Do we need a separate forum or do we just want to do it in Chat?

Opinions?

Good idea, the format looks good.

I was just thinking about offering rides to Mille Lacs or Superior this season.

Probably have space for one windsurfer or two kiters.

May offer transport to/from the gorge as well.

Disclaimer: I drive a 94 chev PU and can't guarentee arrival.

I like it, and having it in another form would be good to.

maby have something that would delete listings the day after the posted ride date to make it easier on you.

Alright... I have a site I developed some time ago. It's still in early stages, but a few clubs at the University of MN use it right now for organizing rides to their team practices.

However, even in its infancy, it's still functional enough for simple use -- I think LAKAWA members will be able to benefit.

The site is called Splitgo ( http://splitgo.com ). You can see the new "channel" I created for lakawa here:
http://splitgo.com/c/lakawa

To be able to sign up for rides or post events, you need to have an account. There's also a "wall" feature to allow small conversation regarding riding on particular days/locations.

Feedback is loved, though the next round of updates to the site won't be for a few weeks at least.

thanks y'all

Cool site Tyson, though it seems a bit tricky to use. Look forward to your next release.

If you want some interface assistance let me know.

I agree this is a real good idea. It means more riders get to more windy spots. Plus, never hurts to have company (don't say a word, Tom G).

I would prefer if it were kept on Lakawa itself--just more straightforward I guess.

you guys think the forum suggestion would work? Or just keep it in Chat?

It could be it's own forum and I could put up an Announcement or Sticky at the top with easy access.

Tyson's ride share site looks like it would work great if people got in the habit of using it. I'm always blown away by how smart you computer guys are. But I'd vote for just posting ride info on chat for now and see how it works.

Dang it! I botched my attempt to create an account as well. Yes I am an old Geezer.

FYI, my first try was rejected because the phone number was formatted inproperly. Maybe show the format xxx-xxx-xxxx on the create login screen for us geezers.

Tyson, do I have to create an account for each channel? Or can I use the same account across multiple channels? How do I change my password?

By the way, I'm thinking about a road trip to Duluth Thursday and Friday.

Tyson, more info ...

After creating an account, I failed multiple attempts to login. During each failure, I was viewing your site within a lakawa frame.

After manually typing http://www.splitgo.com, the login was a success.

Then again, maybe operator error.

Tighe,
I think it should have it's own forum on lakawa, like the stories and classifieds.

my two cents

I've created a forum for Carpooling.

Posts will be deleted after 7 days, so hopefully that will limit the maintenance. If we need to extend that we can.

hopefully we can save our planet
