Damaged Board need advice
I bought a 2007 Liquid Force 151 with a DeKine camo bag for 150.00 and it got damaged in shipping. Bottom skin and top skin seperated on one end and a small crack in the other end. He said send it back or keep it. It seems like the best deal yet and I want to fix it. any one know a little about repair. I would like to talk to them about what they think. Thanks Karl
Re: Damaged Board need advice
I would try to apply some high-grade epoxy and then clamp it for some time. After it has dried, sand away any glue that has oozed out. I've had good luck salvaging some pretty ripped up boards in this manner. But I bet that other people have some better ideas.
Re: Damaged Board need advice
Scott gave me a good deal on his liquid force mission 145 because it had been damaged by the air lines in a similar way. He put some epoxy on it but I could see that wasn't going to hold and the cracks were going to get worse. I spent some time on it and did it correctly and I couldn't believe how well it turned out. It's a little harder repairing boards that have a ppt top and bottom sheet because epoxy doesn't stick to it very well at all, if you can post pics somewere of the damage I could give you more advice. I could show my board to so you could get an idea. Were do you ride?

Karl: Anybody with your mad skills should not ride a damaged board. I'll give you 50 bucks for it.

Re: Damaged Board need advice
Can you just cut it down to a 145 with a jig saw and round the ends?

Re: Damaged Board need advice
The epoxy you use makes all the difference. Epacron marine epoxy at Iasco in St.Louis Park or a high grade epoxy from West Marine.
The use of a vaccuum bag would be ideal but some bar clamps and a chunk of wood will work.

Karl,
If you're going to attempt any repairs, check out the Board Lady as she has plenty of tips for DiY. http://www.boardlady.com
You can pick up materials from Express Composites, but don't expect DiY tips or help. Their intent is to sell you the right product for the job, not teach us how to be 'Composite Repair Technicians'. They'll point you towards Dunwody if you ask too many questions. http://www.expresscomposites.com
The question isn't so much if you can repair it, but how long the repair will last. With practice, it might even look good.
