Hey Kurt,

Mother's got plenty of open water with a nice ice shelf for rigging, you wanna come up next week, I'll bring the brew, and be right behind you (I'm a little slow rigging up).

I'd bet we'd make the news.

Last season opener on L. Washington, I was giving Stroh a lesson on how to not forget gear. ...................................Then I had to return home for drysuit which I forgot. Stroh got a laugh from that.

For reference here are the ice out dates from last year:

El Bear and Wack were ready to go at the end of the month although this year the ice is quite a bit thicker.

Have you guys ever roadtriped it down to nebraska?

Isn't there some lakes people hit down there? Otherwise clear lake in iowa and then canon are usually the earliest to open closer to twin cities right (outside of superior or st.croix or pepin)?

lake mac

Post by JRN »

They used to have a big windsurf race on lake Maconoughy down there.
It is a giant reservoir, out on the flatlands. I'd guess it should be good for kitin' and a heckofalot warmer than here. How about Easter Weekend?

Jim - they still have the race. It's called the Toucan open:

From a driving perspective wouldn't it be just as easy to head to Lake Cheney in Wichita, KS? I think it's actually less.

On 3/1, while I was setting up at the Crossing, a friend in KCMO called to say the Kiters down there were scoring their 1st '08 session on Smithville Lake. Here I was parked on 4 feet of ice with a hundred other kiters, and 400 miles away, they were ripping it up on a windy 70 degree day.

Kansas City, MO - 7 1/2 hours drive. So open water in KC must mean Iowa's next.

I am ready (reddy) for some open water. I have talked to some icefisherman and did a little recon, from what I have been seeing and hearing is that some people are going with extensions on the augers to get thru the ice. Sounds like the ice is alot thicker this yr than last. Hope I am wrong or that it warms up fast.

I'm tellin' ya man we have open water right here in good old Minnesota. You just need to be somewhat amphibious.

Seriously, you won't catch me out there for at least two months, brrrrrr.
