Ski Bindings

Post by Bryce »

I just some 160cm twin tip skis... anyone have any advice for picking out some bindings.

I have some tyrolia 590 and marker m29 on some garage sale skis... but they look a bit old.

I was also looking at these cheap ones..

Should I mount it myself or should I have a shop it for $30.

Has anyone found that the binding makes a big difference for kiting?

Just make sure the bails are wide enough apart, most TT's have a wider waist which can make some bindings tough to fit.
Pay the 30 bucks, if you goof it up and break a leg it'll seem cheap.

I dont think bindings will make any real performance difference for you when kiting.

I get a bit worried when using older bindings as you never know how they were treated and what condition they are in inside (which is what is important). For example being on a roof rack in the salt and dirt on the road is very back for them.

Depending on the skis you have those new ones might be ok, but they brake width says only 73mm, so make sure that your skis are equal or less. The previous post is right, 73mm sounds a little thin. Then DIN going to 10 is more then adequate.

Be careful, I would recomend going for a decent new binding. And have shop mount it. Then next time you buy a new pair of skis, you can always switch it out to your new pair of skis as you know its history.

As a side not on being careful about binding, and I know its a pretty different situation, but Austrian Matthias Lanzinger had his leg amputated after a crash breaking his leg this past weekend. His ski didnt come off and probably made matters a lot worse then it would have been.

.... So be careful on old used bindings that might not release when they should.
