Snowkite Rodeo update

Post by Hunter Welles »

Great day at the Rodeo today. Yesterday there was wind for about 10 minutes, and then died off quickly. I made the call to go up to Discovery, a ski area overlooking Georgetown Lake, and had an awesome time. $24 for the half day lift ticket, and the backside is hard to beat. Great steeps, fresh snow, no lift lines. I cant say enough good things about the place. Perfect for if you get skunked out at the Rodeo, probably a 4 mile drive from where we ride on Georgetown Lake.

Today it was blowing, with great soft snow on the lake. Morning people were flying 11s and 13s, but the afternoon was all about 7s and 9s. Some of the other Minnesota crew got an early morning session up at Mount Haggin, then came down to the the lake for some riding, and I think tried to ride another terrain spot about 10 minutes from Georgetown lake called Black Pine. Lots of people returning, and tons of new faces at the lake, really cool event, hopefully we can get an even bigger Minnesota crew out here next year.

This year Best brought in some professionally made boxes from the Superfly event that were tons of fun to ride on. Heres a couple shots my dad got of the rails today.

Off to the award ceremonies/party with a DJ, and then riding at Haggin all day tomorrow. Ill try to write up another little review and let you guys know how that goes.

Just got back from the award ceremonies, Denis got 2nd in the mens pro kiter cross by a very small margin, heard it was a pretty close finish. party there was still going strong and usually goes pretty late.

Turns out the rest of the MN crew had trouble finding the black pine riding spot and headed back up to Haggin to score another session.

its actually an 07 fuel, but yea i love the colors. its a sweet kite, the few sessions I get on that little 7 are always tons of fun.

Just got done with another good day of riding. soreness is setting in very hard right now. the call was to go to haggin, but was only forecasted for light and variable wind. We stopped at Georgetown lake and found very light wind, right about then I got a call from Denis who was coming back from Haggin where there was nothing.

The lake ended up being pretty good, I was on my 15 Rev for most of the day, then handed it off to Denis to go to my 11 fuel. Denis was looking solid doing some pretty high kite loops, Bryce was throwing railies, hitting the rails, and trying some flat 3s on his skis, I stuck to hitting the rails mostly, but found some fun little kickers to hit on the lake. It ended up being another great day, and even though I didnt get the chance to ride Haggin, I still had a great time and the snow on Georgetown lake was great.

The rail is 3 16' sections, so overall 48'. It was sick, really smooth and buttery. There was another 16' flat box that was pretty fun as well. Looks like your still gonna get the chance to hit them, Jake from best is planning to go to the Crossing, and I think hes gonna be hauling the rails out there with him.

Overall great event, cant wait for next year.

Mt. Haggin turned on about 2:00 today with good wind for big kites. Super soft fresh powder and nice long down-hill jumps.

Jake is flying out for the crossing, so unless he can bring a 48 foot rail as checked luggage, I don't think we will see it at Milly.

Another great Rodeo! Everyone should try to make this event next year.

Thats sick you guys! way to throw it down for MN . Glad you had a awesomr time hunter , I bet riding Discovery was worth the trip from what it sounds like , I remember Sheldon saying last year that that back side is sick, and then to top it off with all the kiting.
Mike so sweet you guys scored there today , I just got done riding Pittman and I was thinking you guys might be there today . Sick stuff out there sounded like as blast ! def have to make it next year.
OK where s the afterparty stories No hot cowgirl contest anymore??

Oh don't worry Nate, there was a hot cowgirl contest. Not as rowdy as last years but still pretty fun. It was fun to see some of the MN crew out there. Had a blast again this year. Got a couple of my Bozeman buds flying my 9m inflatable this year. Rode tandem with the 9m and we were moving pretty good. They're pretty stoked on it.
Doing a cabin rental this year was definitely a plus. Recommend it for anyone thinking about heading out there. Just need to reserve them early. I reserved mine back in Nov.
I ended up making the Discovery call on Sunday. Looks like I missed some afternoon riding. Still had fun at Disco though. We stomped the back side with a posse of 12. Good time.
