Ride in Iowa on Lots of snow on Wednesday?

Post by Uffe »

We are getting a bunch of snow down here in IOWA today and tomorrow, total accumulation of 5-9 inches is what they forecast says.

Here are the next few days forecast. If you have the time, consider heading south if you live in Minnesota to ride some fluffy new pow down in Iowa. Drop me a line if you are considering a road trip, I can meet up Wednesday and/or Thursday afternoon to ride on Lake Saylorville

Here is the forecast for Saylorville, IA 30 min north of Des Moines, or 3 hrs 30 min from Twin Cities, 1.45 south of Clear Lake. Forcast from nooa.gov.

Today: Periods of snow, mainly after noon. Temperature falling to around 28 by 5pm. Breezy, with a north northeast wind between 9 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Tonight: Periods of snow with areas of blowing snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 19. Wind chill values as low as 5. Blustery, with a north wind between 17 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Wednesday: Areas of blowing snow and a chance of snow before noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a steady temperature around 22. Wind chill values as low as 5. Blustery, with a north northwest wind between 9 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Looks to me like Wednesday afternoon is the perfect day to ride, after about 24 hrs of new fallen snow, sunshine and powder. Who is in?

Map of the area, we usually launch from the beach area called "Cherry Glen Beach" see image for details: If you come down I-35S, just take SW Oralabor RD, and follow it until you see signs for the beach access. about 4-5 miles from when you exit the interstate.

Give me a call, post here or email me if you are planning to come out and ride. Should be a perfect day for it Wednesday.

Got a report that Clear Lake area got hit with wet snow yesterday then froze solid overnight. Hard crusty conditions.

Not sure what this next storm will bring to that area.

Saylorville sounds sweet.

So far we got about 2 inches down here, it is starting to come down hard now. Depding on how hard they are saying somewhere between 7-11 + inches now, but who knows how accurate that is. One thing is for sure I am out of the office tomorrow afternoon on the lake. 8)

Here is a link with a web cam at Sayorville Lake there is one cam by the marina. You can see the snow accumulating from about 9 am this morning if you click the "today's movies" link and choose Saylorville Lake.

I hope you weren't studying anatomy! Good one, Kurt. A Doc with a sense of humor, albeit a sick one, is a rare thing...I think. JN P.S:
Is that the spice channel weather guy. It says 7 to 11" near his "swimsuit
area!" Nice Ottumwa!

So far we got about 7-9 inches here in Des Moines overnight, even more on the south side. It is still snowing hard and they expect another 2-3 before it is done. Then maybe some sunny skies in the afternoon, now that would be cool.

Winds are about 15-20 MPH right now so it should be ok.

John, you just called me when I started typing this, you guys will beat me out there but I should be there around noon. Conditions should be awesome. Maybe to much snow for the wind?

Outside here today:

It doesn't look like I am going to have time to make it all the way to Saylorville today. Are you going to be there this weekend also?
