Ice on Tonka

Post by Julia »

Does anyone know if the ice out to Kite Island in drivable yet? Guess I'll have to go check it out. May got to Swede instead for my first session of the season. What better time than day one of the year?

Good to hear from you Julia! I was on White Bear Lake today and plan on hitting Calhoun this week. Not sure about kite island.

Glad to see you are still kiting, so many people have thrown in the towel.

Hope to see you on the snow this winter!

Ppl are still not driving on Tonka yet, at least that I have seen. Although, there are trucks parked on the ice at every launch. As soon as someone starts driving on it everyone will follow the leader. There are ATV's, sleds, and ice houses all over. Wayzata Bay or Smiths Bay launches should be good Thurs, Fri, Sat for S winds.

My nephew said he saw Peter's green house out at Kite Island, but that could be a viscious rumor.

Well, I went out to Wayzeta bay and tooled around. There were a few trucks on the ice, but I wasn't going to be the first to drive out to the island. There was some nice fresh stuff right near the parking lot.

Good to hear from you Leah!
Let's try to get together for some wind soon.

Yes! Many of the West side boyz plan to ride tomorrow aft/ evening. Peter has the hut pimped out and has built a large kicker. Sounds like the snow is great and the temps will be reasonable finally. We will stoke up the BBQ too!

The road must be safe by now; someone post when they know for sure.

Bring blinky lights if you will be night riding.

I'll be out in Wayzata Bay at 2ish, with a friend. Because of the snow, people just aren't driving on the lake yet. Pete trailers his ATV and I'm sure that's how he's getting out. I have one but I keep it at my house & I'm too far away to make it worth driving the ATV all that way on the lake.

BSmith will just have to be the human sacrifice to the kite god & see if he makes it out in a his truck.
