Kiteboarding on TV

Post by Anna D »

I just got an email from Real Kiteboarding about some TV coverage in the next few days. Thought others might be interested! Go to Real Kiteboarding for more info.

Tuesday, December 4th:
-The Today Show (NBC)
-REAL Kiteboarding had the opportunity to make news for NBC's Today Show at the end of this Summer. Host Matt Lauer had seen kiteboarding developing over the past few summers from his Hamptons summer home, and it was something that he wanted to do. Known as an action sports buff, Matt was ready to take on kiteboarding as his next sport.

Wednesday, December 5th:
-The Weather Channel (Show: Epic Conditions)
-The show centers on amazing outdoor locations, perfect weather conditions and incredible sports adventures. Cape Hatteras has all of the above, so it was no surprise when the production team tapped REAL Kiteboarding and its Team Riders Sam Bell and Enily Vater to be featured on the episode. Local rider Dimitri Mariminedes, iKitesurf meteorologist Dave Morris and Kiteboarding Magazine’s editor-in-chief Aaron Sales also will appear on the episode.

checked it out this morning. Unfortunately they played up how difficult it is to learn the sport and the injuries that Matt got. The exposure for the sport was good, and it definitely made it look like there was a need for good instruction, but it was unfortunate that they weren't able to take longer and allow him to get more out of it.

Personally I find these national network morning "news" shows to be pretty lame, they don't report news as much as produce uninteresting entertainment and self glorification, but I guess it's a free country. This should be a link to the REAL site which has a YouTube of the segment...

Sorry if my remarks have offended any hardcore Today Show fans out there!

Ya Tighe I had something similar happen to me with one of the news organizations here with snowboarding. I think they made snowboarding look harder that it was even put some of the bit to clown music.

Chain your absolutely right. You really have to read between the lines on all these news organizations. A friend of mine is a mpls cop. When ever a story comes out that has some good interest I give him a call.

ie: Critical Mass The bicycler group that takes over the city streets once a month in the summer. The event when about 20 or so got arrested. Not once nor did any one news organization mention that they were using Mace on the cops !

Hope you guys had a good trip.
