spi waiting for you
Hi All - I brought my laptop and I'm getting free wireless from the deck. We are having a great time. No wind the 1st day but have been on a 9m most days, rode a 14 yesterday, but lost a fin and did a long down winder when the wind turned east on the bay side.
The gulf has been nice, but water feels little chilly, I wear a shorty at least.
Had a neat site 2 days ago, 15-20 dolfiins where out on the gulf next to the jetties playing in the surf, man they where having fun. Have to say, I'm glad my session was done, must of been a big school of fish they where feeding on, cause the pelicans where diving like crazy. Sometimes 3-4 dolfins where riding the same wave. Judd seen one about 10 feet away.
When are most people coming down, I want to make sure I get over and ride at the flats. There must of been 40 kites up yesterday, so I've been staying away. Not too many people at the convention center, so for those of you who want a little room, you might want to try that when you come, or the gulf.
With Thanksgiving next week, it must be close for the MN crew. See you all soon.
Dianne
PS it's 85 and sunny today and for the next 7 days.

Can't wait to see you all, lots of kiters down, just like a parade on the beach, people line up their chairs to watch everyone go by.
Did a couple of down winders today 12m and 14m, did a bunch of back rolls in the surf, but havn't quite master the jumps off the waves, it's harder to control my hight, than on flat water.
Looking forward to spending some time at the flats with you all since Judd doesn't like to kite there, I don't get there much, but would like to work on a few more things without the punishment of the breakers.
Looks like a small cold front is coming in tomorrow, suppose to be really windy from the north. Not suppose to last long, then a bunch of southerly wind by the weekend.

It is Thanksgiving, 8am and honking at the moment, gusting to maybe 30-35? That's the good part... for windsurfing stuff have to wait until 10am for the shop to open to rent some gear. Bayside only. But I am Thankful that I can rent at all. Apparently when it gets "cold" (50-60) and windy like this more people choose NOT to rent? That is just not right.
Not gonna teabag myself continuing to learn w/ a 10m kite today, i think.
Ok, gotta go stare at the waves gulfside, now. From our balcony, looks just like Duluth, (but warm!).
I suppose that flats is where it will happen, but if anyone wants to hookup: 612-two eight zero, 1223.

As forecast over a week ago, it did indeed turn cold and blow like stink on Thansgiving. Max wind speeds pushed 40 on the flats at times.
I didn't bring windsurf equipment, so needed to rent. Even though it was T-day, I found Jibber on the flats where he seems to be in his white van apparently every day. Talked to him the day before and he sort of downplayed his assortment of equipment for rent on high wind days..."Most people don't want to come out in these conditions", he said. He has some decent 80L boards (HiFly maybe?) and nice Aerotech sails, and after he rigged a 3.5 with the 80L, it seemed too bouncy even though water was pretty flat. He offered up the 68L Exocet that was virtually new, really sweet, and basically the board that he only uses himself, so it was nice that it was available to take.
I mentioned that flat water conditions were good to learn duck jibes, so he gave me advice about what to do. I realized later that he actually watched me and gave specific advice as to what I needed to do better. Felt like I came close to getting it, and after packing up he had a few more tips that turned the light bulb on some more. Maybe next time out, it will click in.
Anyway, it was great to have his generous help; if you are down in Padre and want to rent, look up Jibber.
