Still grinnin' from our visit to Port wing. Water was warm and the color was that gray-green jade. I gotta tell one thing that happened while Ben and I were rigging our sails. A van pulled up to us and this old lady got out with her husband. It took her a while to make it over to us, as she was quite elderly. She watched us for a moment and asked "How hard is it bowing?" Ben told her " 'bout 30 knots." He paused, looked up at her and with a completely straight face said "You goin' out?" She did the Bob Newhart blink for a moment, then cracked up a second before I did.
Saw Ben do several back loops, nailed one. This was the day for me to actually do a forward. I chose the biggest wave, got as high as I could, and threw my body as hard as I could forward, committing to my rotation completly. Rotated right out of my foot straps and face planted so hard I'm still numb.
Randy, gracefull as always. Still learning from watching you. Phil Halvorsen's first at port wing, he dailed all day and was loving it.
God, watching the kiters (Jud?) get 30 feet of air, plus some. I hope the pics everyone took come out well, I'm looking forward to seeing them

Where to Launch
Admire the guts that you tried a forward! I driven through Port Wing a few times, but could never figure out where you guys are launching. Saw one spot next to a scenic pull-off south of town that looked do-able. Where exactly do you go? (If you don't mind letting us in on the secret)
Thanks, Jim N.
Thanks, Jim N.
There is a GREAT beach launch in town. The best part is that there is a pier that blocks some of the waves so that you don't get washing-machined like you do in Duluth. The turn off is right in town, by a barn-turned-craft shop. That heads towards the lake then there is a small road named "Beach Road" that you take a left on. There is actually a small marina there with a half dozen boats or so. If you get lost, just asking for the marina will do the trick.
I can't wait to see the pics people post...

Some shots
Great day. Judd and I hit the water around 10. Terry Danielson said they had pulled a freighter into safe haven behind an Apostle Island when we were on the way up. Fortunately, the waves weren't mammoth, the wind was strong, and it was a great day. Terry and Judd may have been the first kiters at Port Wing.
When Ben, Phil, and Chris showed up it was the first in awhile where windsurfers outnumbered kiters.
Judd was lit on 9M all day. I was solid on my 4.5M. The terrain was exaggerated Mille with in close wave riding. We sailed 'til about an hour before sunset, and now the recuperation starts again.
We're forming a Special Tuesday club.

YOU DUDES RULE
THE PAST 2 NITES I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO MAKE AN ALBUM. I HAVE SOME PRETY COOL SHOTS OF CHRIS AND JUD. IT WAS GREAT TO BE BACK ON THE WATER AGAIN. IT WAS SUPER FUN. 2 TOP MOMENTS---CHRIS TRYING A FORWARD IN FRONT OF ME AND JUD'S DEAD MAN'S AT 20-30 FEET.......HOW DO YOU EVEN MEASURE? CHRIS'S FORWARD WAS SICK. HE PICKS THE BIGGEST WAVE IN THE LAKE, WAITS TO THE APEX OF HIS AIR AND GOES OVER THE BARS. ONCE OVER HIS FEET COME OUT OF THE STRAPS UPSIDE DOWN, HE STOPS ROTATING AND INSTANTLY DROPS......15FT OR SO.......ONTO HIS GEAR! NEEDLESS TO SAY, I THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE TO DO SOME SORT OF WATER RESCUE. NOPE, THE MIGHTY WINDSURFER QUICKLY GIVES ME THE THUMBS UP AND WATER STARTS. AMAZING. THAT DUDE IS NUTS. JUDS KITE SKILLS ALWAYS IMPRESS, PHIL, KILLER FIRST TIME AT PORT WING...YOU KILLED IT! RANDY-DAMN YOUR SMOOTH ON THOSE WAVES, SMOOOTH. AND TERRY JUST DEMOLISHED THE WAVES THE WHOLE TIME I WAS THERE, RELENTLESS WAVE DOMINATOR. I TRIED POSTING PICS IN THE ALBUM BUT KEEP FAILING. I THINK I HAVE TO RESIZE THE PICS FIRST.
