HI! ... Saylorvill, IA?

Post by bborer »

Hello I am Brian Borer ... I am new on Lakawa. I am a student at Iowa State University about 20 minuets from Saylorville IA and was wondering what the kiting DL is for Saylorville? Where are the good spots, what the boats are like, ect... Also if anyone goes down there I would pay gas money for a ride.

Saylorville alive and Great for Kiting.......

Post by sail51 »

There were 4 Kiter's out on saylorville on saturday....... 2 Windsurfer's..... Oak Grove Beach area...... East side of the lake.......
Except for Holiday's, Boat trafic is light if the Wind is Blowing.......
There is a large Beach area for Rigging........ And you can walk the Edge of the lake for over a mile with no Tree's and very Few Rock's......
Really is a Very Kiter-Friendly area to sail.........
Low Boom Larry.........

Hey thanks alot! I went down there today and got a little session in ... it was great! I found when I got down there that there was a beach alittle south of a campground called prarie flower I think. That is where I rode and it seemed really good there was even a little inlet with some flat water. So how many kiters do you usually see down there?

Surf Iowa

Hey Brian,

There are 5 kitesurfers in Central Iowa. Alfie and I occasionally check this forum. Tom and his son Steven don't. A new guy named Matt is learning. We all try and ride together whenever we can. We kite sailorville and big creek. Sialorville is flooded right now. Call me the next time you are thinking about going out. I may go tomorrow (Th)afternoon. Our Sept Oct winds are usually pretty good.

Oh yeah,

Big Creek is a "no beginner" lake. If you can't stay upwind and keep your kite in the air, PLEASE do not ride here. It is too tight, the launches are sketchy, and there are swimmers on the beach. One bad session and kiteboarding could get banned (which would be a juge blow to the kite community as big creek is the only place to ride when Sailorville is flooded or crowded with boat traffic).

Hope to see you out there soon!

Brain glad you found a place&people to ride with sounds like Sailorville is a better launch for you but im sure youd be fine at Big Creek as long as you have some one to launch you. have fun down there .
