Does anyone use those SeaSpecs?

I Kite in the winter and Whitewater when things thaw. My biggest problem on the river is I wear contacts and they get knocked sideways by spray and I can't see. Kind of a bad thing in bigger water. Does anyone use the SeaSpecs? Do they prevent this from happening? I've tried sunglasses and goggles and both just don't seem to work. I'd really appreciate any info! Thanks!

I have the same problem. I tried the Sea specs, they do help out a bit but I still have problems loosing my vision. I think its time for lasik or something similar. It really sucks having to head in one eyed not to mention dangerous.

There are prescriptioni Sea Specs but they are pretty pricy.

I wear Sea Specs under a Gath helmet with a visor that helps hold them in place and also provides some additional protection from spray. I find this combination does a pretty good job of protecting my contacts from spray.

My Rx is very high so I need to keep the buggers in! Getting pulled under water you can still lose them very easy if you don't shut your eyes right away of course. I've thought about carrying an extra pair of Rx sunnies to get me home if I lose both lenses, but so far I have only lost one at a time.

With my high Rx refractive surgery would require removing over 50% of my cornea, which has its own set of considerations and I have decided to stick with corrective lenses for now.

Coincidentally I just picked up some daily disposable lenses which are super inexpensive so I feel completely guilt free chucking them after a day on the water. Why didn’t I do this sooner?

Also, just got some new Sea Specs from Tighe which was pretty cool cuz I didn't notice how beat up my old ones were. They were something like four years old and I beat the crap out of them. The new ones are rock solid!

Thanks for the replies! My prescription is pretty heavy duty also but I do plan to eventually get Lasik. Do these shed water pretty well when they're wet so you're not looking thru drops? I agree it's really dangerous when your contacts are knocked sideways. Most of the water I run I'm familiar with so I know what's coming up next but I've been branching out to new rivers...plus a friend called and is going to start me kiteboarding today!

I ended up purchasing Sea Spec prescription lens. They are actually progressive bifocals. So I can see a knot tangle up close but have very little correction for distance. They won't get knocked off because they have a strap that you tighten around your head.

I also use a Hydrophobic solution by Oakley every time I go out which helps to repel & shed water. I'm pretty happy with them. Trying to undo a tangle on the water (or off for that matter) without my glasses was impossible, before these.

Hi there

I use Sea Specs for wake boarding, water and snow kiting. Never lost a pair. You can get them on e-bay ( copy version ) with the same UVA and B protection. 3 pairs 29 bucks

They are rock solid. I always use contacts with them. They take the spray, but there is sufficent ventilation for them not to steam up.
