Newborn Sailing: Go Really Local!

Post by chanrider »

Well we had another kid on Tuesday and its been tuff gettin’ out, so this afternoon I drove down the street to Lake Minnewashta primarily to put our 2 year old to sleep and also see if there was sailable conditions. Looked somewhat possible & the kid was fast asleep, so I raced home and placed the kid in bed and threw my freshly repaired 8.4 (thanks Jeff A!) and junk in the car and went back for an hour + of mostly planing conditions. There were beach and boat people actually cheering on my pathetic jibe attempts near shore, kind of mocking the circus clown I guess but it was actually pretty cool just to be on the water! I don’t think I have ever rigged and de-rigged so quickly cuz there were no other wind people there and I promised to get home before the afternoon nap was over. I’m counting it as a good sesh!

Congrats on the new one. Being close to Minnewashta too, I use that lake if I only get an hour as well. People on shore are very curious of the windsurfers. I've only ever seen 1 other person on that lake, mostly becuase the winds change direction based on your location on the lake.

Congratulations on your new addition to the family! Our 16 year old son just got back from teaching windsurfing in Toronto for 9 weeks and we are just having a blast on the water together. It's something great to look forward to having fun and sharing the passion for a sport with your children. It can't get any better then that
