Milly delivered. Consistent as hell is the only way to describe that wind today. It varied from about 12 to 16 with no gusts. Gave you alot of confidence to try new stuff. Hunter was the winner on that front today with some great skim board riding. Hope everyone scored a great session, I know I did.

A beautiful day at Reddy to share with good people. Wind was down a bit when the camera came out. Still Todd got a few good boosts:

I noticed a funny thing yesterday. I taught most of the day, then took some video over at Reddy. Didn't ride at all due to my knee....and I had a great day. The energy at the end of the day wasn't that dissimilar to a good day riding. I think it shows that power of the shared, community stoke. The stoke at Malmo was great. The stoke from the students dialing their first rides was electric, the stoke from the riders going off for the camera, and the mellow wind down stoke on the beach and as we feasted at Carlsona made the day. I was in the water the whole day that may have added to it as well.

Thanks all for making it a great day. I have quite a bit of video I'll try to edit asap. Big thanks go out to John Z for letting me "demo" that HD camcorder. That thing is so sweet...and only $1000 crazy.

That weird effect happened again and Malmo go the lion's share of the wind. Riders were on 12s and 9s at Malmo and much bigger at Reddy. When I was teaching students would be powered to overpowered up near Malmo and as we worked our way down the lake the wind slowly diminished. Weird. Maybe as the temps change here in the fall that effect will drop off...right about the time I hit the water again : )

Great pics Kurt

I'm no expert on Mille Lacs, but I have experienced, like you mention Tighe, a number of days where it's cranking at Malmo and significantly milder wind at Reddy. My theory, based mainly on ideas others have raised, such as, that "the lake makes its own weather," is that somehow there's an interaction effect between the weather on the eastern shore and the lake air. Maybe the lake makes a huge column of air that rises and blocks the wind orthere's probably some other mechanism at play. Assuming for the sake of argument that there is an ambient level of wind on land, and a slower moving chunk of wind on the lake, it would make sense that right along the Eastern shore would be a turbulent area of gusty, high-speed wind. Anybody ever ride along the eastern shore to give some reference on that?

your right it is a buble of cold air over the lake that prevents the warm wind from pushing through. you can get much stronger wind at a side shore location.

Malmo

Post by RobH »

Heather and I rode Malmo - epic day for both of us. Heather had a great day on her 10m SB2 and her first long session enjoying the success of ending upwind of the starting point after riding for hours. Im not sure who was more excited over her break through as it was our first day of really being able to ride long sessions together. It was great seeing the familar faces up there and we missed those who were riding Reddy.

I had my first rides on the 12m CB3, I didnt know if I would enjoy riding the bow style after the Waroo's and SB2 but the kite rocked my world and my body with many splashes as boosting was easy but landings were not (my bad).

Was fun watching Judd through the deadmand and big air manuvers for the camera - hope everyone had as much fun as we did.
Looking forward to Wednesday winds
