Otter Tail

Post by NJB »

Scored a sweet sesh on OT yesterday. Great lake, didnt realize it was that big (3-4 times the size of the wac?).

Found a really good launch on the north shore, just west of the point. It was Amor park: grassy rigging area (sheltered from the wind), still 3-4 feet deep 150 yards out and no docks for 100 yards each way.

Sounds like most people got some around here. :D :D :D

Ottertail is a nice lake. Josh J, my dad, and I kited and windsurfed over there earlier this summer. We launched on the northeast side to a sideshore wind. It was a pretty good spot and relativity shallow.

I have a family place on the north shore of OT. My son and nephew (both 17) and I have been kiting all summer, along with Mark Johnson who has a place on the south shore. It is a great lake - the wind plows all the time! And, it is shallow up to a half mile out from shore. It is just under 15M acres. I heard somewhere that it is the 10th biggest lake in MN. We will be there Saturday if you would like to launch from our place. Looks like a strong south wind (typical) which means we will walk out i to the wind to launch and then head up wind. We have waverunner support. My cell is 612-619-3397 and we are #42152 on Hwy 1, 1/2 mile west from the OT River bridge, 5 miles west of 78.
Also, there is a great mountain bike race on Sunday at Maplelag, 20 minutes north of DL. I have done the race for years and it is a great time - highly recommended. Accomodates all levels of riders. Bring kites, mtn bike and wakeboards!

Ottertail, is one lake I have always really wanted to hit, I have looked at the maps and google but have never gone that way, it does always seem to show wind on the wind graphs. I dont think this is the week for me but I hope to get out there sooner than later, so its good to hear some first hand accounts

Another great weekend at Otter Tail.
Saturday was rippin from dawn to dusk. I was lit on my 9m from noon until sundown (took a couple breaks).
Good to meet Ed, Steve, Joe and Mark. Sweet spot you guys have up there: more than a square mile of 3 foot, sandy bottom water that gets more wind than most of the rest of the state (from what Ive been seeing anyways).
Hate to miss a good day at Reddy but OT definetely delivered.
Hope all had good rides!!!

Sounds sweet. I've wanted to get up there for a long time. Sounds like a nice kite community is developing up there too.

Hopefully sometime soon

ride on

That was a great day on Saturday - one of the best. We got some great video/pics of Joe getting big air and landing his wakestyle moves. We put the wakeboard boat away on Sunday, and we put on 1/2 the hours that we had the last two years. What a difference kiteboarding makes. Now the wakeboard boat is just something to do when the wind is not blowing.

that is a very apt description of a wake board boat. They're also good for drinking beer without being bothered by mosquitos.
