Beginner friendly water...

Post by faceplant »

I have some time off this friday and would really like to get some kite time in. I live on the East side of the cities and am looking for some beginner friendly water. Has Ramsey gotten any friendlier now that the water's down? Does anyone know of other lakes that have gotten better for beginners? If not, I'd be willing to make the drive out to Washington, but I'd prefer to stay closer if I could.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bryan

Leery

I would be leery about Ramsey for beginners. There are still so many obstacles both static & moving which can spell "BAD NEWS" for beginners.
Maybe at odd hours on week days, or overcast days when the beach is empty, but you never know what will crop up. Have you checked out Lake George up in N. Anoka Cnty? It is usually less populated. Go North on Round Lk. Blvd off Hwy. 10. JRN

Bryan, I would recommend Mille Lacs for a beginner. Tomorrow's forecast looks SSE and this would work at Reddy and maybe Malmo if there is enuf South, but I'm not sure of that. Malmo is definitely the ticket for beginners, with Reddy being ok but not as forgiving.

Lake George I personally think is not so good for beginners, there are weeds, people, trees and the shallows do not extend anywhere near as far as Mille Lacs. Oh yeah, the wind can be a lot more gusty vs Milly also cuz it's a much smaller lake.

Lake Washington is about the same without the people or weeds, if you are on the East side I don't think it makes any sense to drive to all the way to Washington cuz Milly is about the same distance if not closer?

Hope you score wherever you head. If you can take along a buddy for launch assistance, etc that would prolly be helpful too. Enjoy the day off!
