Gale Force Winds on Park Point Yesterday

Post by jdwindsurfer »

Sorry -- accidentally posted this in the classifieds, too...javascript:emoticon('')

Not sure if this made the radar down south, but we had a crazy day in Duluth yesterday. I guess some guys got out early in the afternoon and I'd be interested to hear how things went for them. A group of us went sindsurfing from 5 - 9 pm and we had a blast.

Around noon there was a recorded gust of 60 mph and sustained winds of 43 mph. At 5 PM when we started it was still blowing 40, but it eased off to the high 20s and mellowed into mid 20s for the rest of the night. There was excellent chop - really steep at the edges of the channel on the bay side where we wer surfing.

Here is a news story about the power outages and such. UMD was closed early dure to a 6.5 hour power outage and about 20,000 houses were hit by outages from downed trees:

3.5 on 75liters WOUND UP!!!!!!! Awesome in the lulls and flipping crazy in the gusts. I sailed from 2 until 5. 2 to 3 was gusting 25 to 60. 3 to 4 filled in and 4 to 5 was 50 sustained with big gusts. I have a glow on epic proportions! In the gusts I had to water start in the straps and harness lines   !!!!!!!!! Windsurfing is cool!
