Ramsey: Return of the Lake Itch!

Post by Dave Z »

It's Baaaaack. Glad I wore a full wetsuit at Ramsey this past Wednesday. I've got about five miniature itchy skin volcanoes on my feet. Here's the FAQ:

I contracted my batch of them on Saturday at Ramsey. The pharmacist at Cub gave me a bottle of Chigarid. Seems like it just treats the itch rather than get rid of the chiggers (that's what they are, right?). Kind of messy if you've got hairy legs like mine. I'll let ya'all know if it works any better than the other stuff out there.

Anyone know how widespread this is in the lake? Can I avoid getting a second batch of these things by going to Rutherford?

Ramsey is notorious for it this time of year. I was just down from Ramsey last week and came out fine (kinda between Ramsey and where Rutherford apparently is)

I know they have sprayed, so hopefully it will be gone soon if it isn't already.

Well they were still full force on Saturday. My legs are testiment to that. lol
I'm going there again tonight and I'd really rather not get a double dose of them.

Don't blame ya. I do know the lifeguards there had the sign up still as of yesterday.

I read an article last year that putting some repellant with deet (I like that word...Deet :!: ) on before going out helps to make them bugger off.

It's worth a shot.

Rampant at Ramsey AND Bellaire. I rode last Wed @Ramsey and got it...then on Fri I rode at Bellaire and got it even worse.....THEN I forgot to tell my neighbor who took her kids and my kid swimming in IT yesterday and now THEY have it even worse! My kid looks like she has chicken pox. So, uh, yes it's everywhere.

I was at Ramsey last night and didn't get any new bites. Yay!
I did make sure to towel off when I was done, but I couln't find any bug spray in the house.

From the picture and this article from the DNR it looks like water is splashing up on your legs and the drops are drying while you ride. So it is to late to towel off when you stop riding. Tights or thin wet suit???
