Hey Jon, I'm over here on northern Lake Michigan. Spring is late in coming this year to the Great Lakes. I had a short 10m session on Sunday in 38 degree water. It was cold. If you hit Superior ride with a friend and be safe.

I picked up these waterproof socks at Midwest mountaineering. They might do the trick for you?

Sailed Superior yesterday for the first time - water wasn't that bad. Expect 30 plus MPH wind this afternoon. Its a bit differenct with the low water - you might find it easier to deal with the big lake with the low water. Makes it really tough to sail inside the shore break however..

Expect to be out on Park Point until about 5 today. watch for shear near the north shore - I'm sailing from my house on 38th St. to avoid the lower velocities as you get near town..

Chris -

Sailed Saturday for a couple hours. The water was noticably colder than when I sailed on Thursday but 35-40 degrees - not much different I guess. I didn't take my breath away when my face hit it, its just that my drysuit leaks a bit too much! I resorted to using ductape at the ankles to get a better seal.

Wind was NE at close to 40 when I went out - really nervous about our new found shallow water. But I found it to be about the same as ever. My fin is already about 2 inches shorter from dragging in the sand anyway. Sailed from my house - up to play with the surfers at 12th for a while, then down to the airport. VERY deep down there, and I ended up with my second walk-of-shame in a week - couldn't get stared in lightening winds near shore and was too chicken to wallow through some really nasty rip zones so I bagged it and walked home...

For the water being low and all, there was plenty of clay in the water from the south shore..

Looking forward to a good sailing season.

I'm ready boys! Hate that cold water, but I'm got the windsurfing shakes. Sorry I missed this past weekend. I was putting 4' by 16' steel on a roof at my cabin. I almost caught some air. HOLY CRAP was it windy! Call me when you boys go out. I am only on call every 3rd week now that I'm at St.Mary's. Sweet DUDES!!! 428-5936

the only unique condition on the POINT is NE. when ever the forcast is N, NE, E or SE - especially in the Spring, the sea-breeze engine kicks in along with the high, converging shores to make a strong NE'r on the point - similar to the Gorge.. NW is just like sailing any other lake, and generally is somewhat lighter than forcast on the point..

Head to Port Wing in the fall for NW winds.
