Time to ride. Going to be a cold one. ETA 3pm small beach across from 3 seasons in Mahtomedi SE corner of WBL. Avery and I should be there.

Be careful of your stuff freezing. I don't know what the overall effect on kites and lines would be but I remember having to quit windsurfing a few years back 'cause my boom kept icing up!

Avery and I rode from 3 to 5pm. In short it was awesome in 28-32 degrees none-the-less with 15 to 25 mph winds. Those of you who thought it was too cold to play. Sorry-it was not. Avery schooled me on big boosts. I say 25 footers! Unbelieveable! Good to meet Paul from the west side. Thanks for taking some pics. I blew out the canopy on my new bularoo which is curious and a total bummer. Avery, damn that was fun! Pics to come in the gallery soon.

I'm amazed there is still safe ice in the cities.

I am coming back for easter break and am dying to get out again. would any lake in the cities be safe? or just WBL and higher lakes?

<- doesn't want to die because skiis kept him under the broken ice.

Kurt, I'm sure the water freezing in the seams on your kite had the ice expand enough to blow the stitching
You guys are my heroes and my favourites because you make me feel so sane.

menace,
We are rideing water here in the cities

I got out today on waconia for a half hour session. it was some good wind and waves I would say gusts up into the 30's :D :D I picked up the rest of my new thermos today and just had to try them out.... I was WAY to hot out there  eaven with my dry compleetly frozen I was still to warm. After a litle while my bar and lines got too iced up to be able to move my bar, use my sheeting strap, and be able to relese so I decided to call it quits.

hope to get out tomorow

Wow I'm impressed you guys braved those elements today.

The shots are great. For some reason there seemed to be so much more water trails following you into the air...made for some great shots. Avery you were skying. Nice.

That's an interesting theory Steve, bout the seams blowing. Has that happened to you before? Never heard of it, but it makes sense.

Naw...it was just a silly tongue in cheek comment based on 25 degree temps and big balls.
But having said that who knows, it would stiffen the cloth and make it more ridgid, a sudden impact might with the stiffness and extra weight blow seams.
Winter the kites rarely get ice ( except for the crossing) so we don't see what damage could be caused. But 25 degrees and water kiting there had to be some ice build up, who knows what it would do.
