I just took a drive arround waconia.
the shore is open about 25 -300 yard out infront of the dnr launch.
the ice is pushing into wagners bay lots of big holes in the ice in that side of the lake...
and the good....
turts bay from east of the launch all the way to the point is wide opento the west shore. I might try to launch there today as soon as the rain clears out a litle. the wind is comming straight in there and looks like it would be an epic flatwater session

Drove out to see what Stroh was yackin about, sho nuf he was on the water!
Most of the lake still ice, but he found a small open bay off the city park just west of downtown.
Looks like the ice is ready to go... maybe tonite?
Anyhoo, I wouldn't necessarily recommend Stroh's "kite launch" to anyone who's not Stroh... like a guy standing on shore said to me, "is that guy nuts or what?"
Here are a few pix of kiter in the bay and lake at the DNR ramp:

After finishing my taxes drove around the Wack today and looks like the ice all got pushed against the west side of the lake... even Stroh's little bay had filled with ice
The good news is at least half the lake is open, the entire SE half looked clear today
It will be interesting to see if the ice berg breaks up overnight or migrates east as the winds start to shift
If the ice goes (or even stays put) might be some rides to be had at the DNR ramp tomorrow?

not quite but maby tomorow. there is still alot of ice out there I'd say 1/3 rd of the lake is still iced over and it doesn't look like it's breaking very easily.
as soon as the wind shifts to the NW that ice will most likely push into the launch. we will see
if waconia is iced go to washington should be sick there as well. it was great at washington today.
