Rockin' at the Crossin'

Post by chanrider »

Just wanted to thank Mike Fox, Tighe and a whole lot of other people who hopefully get named here for putting on a great event. Conditions for the race were great and the whole event seemed to be run with a great deal of expertise.

Having a local event like this which draws people from Canada, Iowa and who knows where else make it an experience like no other.

I'm just sorry I had to leave right after the race and missed the "closing ceremony." Next year might have to leave the kid back at the ranch! :D

Yup, thanks to Mike for heading the efforts and to everyone who made this great weekend happen. Whoever scheduled the snow did a great job too. There's a lot of thanks that I owe. I'm sure I'll miss a lot, but here goes:

Thanks to Brian for letting me use his GPS in my shovel-kiting speed record attempt. Thanks to Jan-Marie and Dave for letting me crash on the bed during the swap. Sorry for tinkering with the thermostat, I was cold. hehe. Thanks to Terry for letting me use his kite as blanket. Thanks to Eric and Anna for the great french toast and letting me crash at their place. Thanks to Kurt and other camera holders for the pics. Thanks to a bunch of people for the launches and landings. Thanks to Peter and others for leading the kicker building effort. Thanks to Tighe for letting me use his bar for the crossing. Thanks to Nathan for letting me use the kites. Thanks to Dukers for keeping the sheets warm.

It was great to meet new faces like Scott, and reconnect with other like Woody, Mike B, Terry, Jim N, Pete and all the rest of smiling faces.

Awesome weekend! Thanks to all!

Yeah what a great weekend. I intend to do a summary soon with results. Thanks everyone for making it what it was. The conditions definitely challenged the best laid plans and provided some incredible surprises. Never enough time to hang and chat.

Mike and Larry and their crew did a great job.

I didn't even pull out my camera all weekend. Hopefully there will be some great pics coming in.

Thanks to everybody for a great weekend. Kurt, appreciate your willingness to lend out the 'roos--the 5m was great in Saturday's gale and the new 15 was a sweet ass, very smooth ride. Also, thanks TomG for the van, the 12m Crossbow, and lots of good knowledge.

It was good to reunite with Darlene and meet Denita who might just catch the addiction sooner or later (appreciate letting us share the hotel room also), Jan Marie you look great and it sounds like the hip is working out just fine.. Eric and Jeff, always a good time, too bad you had to leave a little early.. Mike "Mangler" and Melissa great to see you again. Rode near Mike for a stretch on Sunday, he cranks on those fuels... this summer ought to be a watershed for us newer kiters.

Riding in powder, as this is my first year on a snowboard, was bliss. But as the weather god may be listening, I would like to humbly suggest that if the powder came first, and then the wind, that would be lovely.

Peace out everyone, I have to head to work.

So who won the raffle?

It was great meeting everyone. As a newbie to the sport it was fun to listen to people who have been doing this for years. Didn't do the race this year but plan on next year. I hope someone got some pictures because as I was over in the tykes area working on the basics I looked back and it was amazing. 30+ kites of all colors with a purple horizon on one end of the lake and an amazing blue color on the other side. Tried to get my camera out but batteries evidently don't like to be left in the car overnight.

Can't remember half your names because it is either mike a through z, chris a through z, or kennyg [Great on the sax]. Definitely helps to match up a face with their handle.

Ok so winter kiting has redeemed itself, I'm ALMOST considering NOT moving to Hatteras! Sunday was my first time on a snowboard AND I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!! It's so much funner than skis!! Is anybody else having a hard time with things such as walking, getting out of bed, etc.?

It's sad that some of us are so swamped in academia that they criticize the stoke induced incoherent ramblings of a fellow rider. My best sessions were followed by utterances that were somewhere between grunts and sighs but clearly not recognizable as spoken language. Tyson you must get out more....we miss you.
