Snowfall amounts

Post by Tighe »

Can't seem to find an updated snowfall amount link.

So give a hollar as to how much you see out your door.

Here in Longfellow we have about 4-5 inches (Steve please refrain yourself)

It all looks good. Looks like south of the cities a little better. Anyone have a destination in mind? Prior Lake? Lakeville?

I can vouch for Spring as it had 8-12 inches before the snow. I presume Prior Lake is similar. No cars/trucks have been driving on it which is surprising based on past history. Lot's of large ice houses, snowmobiles and four wheelers are on Spring.

texop, prior lake had any where from 10 inches of ice in most areas to open water. the open water is arround the islands ( mostly reids island) but both prior and spring lakes kinda suck for wind. there are two good directions wsw and ENE.
I checked out cedar lake yesterday and there was 6 inches of fluf. this lake would work great on a south wind.. probibly work on more directions since it's surrounded by flat farm land.
(cedar lake in scott county just off hwy 13)

Beware of the open water from the aerator on Cedar Lake. Let me know how the south wind worked there.

Me and a co-worker should be out on Spring around 3:30pm. The south wind was just OK when we had ice. Yes, east or west components are the best for Spring. Gotta try when my time is limited though.

The aerator is always switched off in winter, so there's never any open hole.
Cedars about 10 inches thick ice with 4 inches of snow cover and rocks for any southerly breezes.

Really? I wonder why they spent so much money putting an ad in the local papers about the aerator with a warning? I know it was on like 4 years ago in the winter.

So where to you access Cedar during a south wind? The only access I know of is the public boat launch/park on the NE side.

Guess I shoulda went there. Spring was cooking but only in a small area near the swamp/inlet river. Went down really quick at dark, then came back a little.

Lord knows...I've lived on the lake for 11 years and it's never on in winter.
It was put in to keep the lake moving on the quiet days in summer to reduce the build up of algae. In late fall the cold kills the algae and it's no issue so they shut the aerator off.In the summer the aerator switches itself on when the wind is below a certain threshold, I don't know what the mph is, to circulate the lake.
There's 2 spots on Cedar you have to watch, where the Horse creek comes into the lake on the Westside of the North shore and 3/4 of the way down the lake ( going south) on the east side where the apple outlet is. Both are easily seen and really shallow if you do goof up.

As far as launches go I live on the North east side of the lake, I launch from home and anyone is welcome to come use my yard, park, raid the fridge, come to meisters( bar on the south side of the lake, great burgers and good beer) and buy me a beer after a hard day having too much fun.

Bill there is an acces on the NW corner of Cedar also there is a litle park with a fishing dock futher south of the main boat launch. by the way where is the aerator.

texpo, I would say the ice is plenty thich there was many snowmobile tracks on the lake. just stay away from the aerator at least 200 yards away.

steve, the lakes around here suffer alot of winter kill so they run aerators all winter. without them oxygen levels get too low and the fish all die

And you know what that means, No big pigs to slay. :(
The weeds need sunlight to produce oxygen and when the snow
covers the lake, it shades the sunlight . Thus the fish
suffer and so do I.
