Alex & Leah? Cruise Ship Kiting?

Post by darlene »

Anybody ever brought kiting equipment on a cruise ship? I'm booked for 2 cruises in January......ports are Progresso, Cozumel, Belize, then Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, & Puerto Vallarta. Anybody ever kited these places? Should I bring my kiting gear? It's a lot of crap to haul around if I don't use it, but I don't want to be kicking myself either!! Should I bring both my 10M & 14M & both boards 137 & 151?

Oh wow. How long are you at each port? If the ship will be in port all day I would totally bring your gear! Will it fit in your cabin though?

Is it even possible to enjoy a vacation if it doesn't involve kiting?
Being near wind and water and not being able to kite is punishment not vacation!

I googled "kiteboarding Belize" and got lots of info last year when I thought of going. It looks like it has lots of potential kiting spots between the mainland and the islands. My boss dives there and loves it. There's a primo spot called Las Ventanas on Baja about a 1/2 days rough ride north of Cabo on the Sea of Cortez coast. San Carlos on the Pacific side is renouned for wave riding. You probably won't want to go back to the ship afterward though. Jim N. P. S: Sorry I missed you at Padre. Your riding looked awesome in the pictures!!

That could become the new "illegal base jumping" thrill.

Kiting off the top deck while the ship is in motion and beating it to the dock...

I brought my kiting gear along for my honeymoon cruise a few years ago (yes, my wife is very kind and understanding). I kited Miami before we left, and rode in Belize, Cozumel, and Roatan.

I threw two kites, board, harness, pump, etc. into a snowboard bag. ended up being about the size of a golf bag. An NSI Deceiver would have been a god-send.

The riding was pretty decent - I lucked out. We were pretty much limited to wherever there were day trips our outings to various beaches from the ships. I could have tried to or book something off-ship at the various stops or rented a car - especially on Cozumel, but it worked out anyway. :-)

 Nice winter get always!! You are not liking this cold weather are you!!! I would bring just the 14 and the 137. You will want to kite all the time if you bring both. The 14 and 137 will give you the most flexibility...don't go out in off shore or directly on shore conditions. Especially if you have never been out in the area. As a local about things to watch out for where you want to go...Have fun!!

Do you know Alex & Leah? Alex is from Cozumel and Leah has spent
alot of time there too. Talk to them if you can about kiting there but
anyway the beaches at the north end & east end af the island sound
good. The north end faces slightly nw. and a no. or nw. wind give a
side shore and you can even tuck in behind the point for smooth water
in the right conditions. Haven't been there yet but going in March so post
if you get some riding down there. Good Luck!

my buddy was in cozumel for a week - great riding - just keep an eye on your gear cuz the locals will "borrow" your stuff (cuz they are all riding on really old gear)

Alex & Leah?

Alex & Leah--are you still going to be in Cozumel January 9th? I met you both at Mille Lacs a few times. I'll be in Cozumel via Norwegian Cruise Lines "Dream" Ship from 10:30-6pm. I'm bringing my kite gear & hoping the wind will cooperate! Maybe we can hook up or tell me where to go?

hey darlene

I was in the cancun/cozumel area recently. I used these sites for info.

http://www.ikaruskiteboarding.com

on that web site it has a spot to click on kite spots.

I also looked at

http://www.kitecozumel.com

under "tours" it shows the differnt areas on cozumel to kite.

I am not an expert on the area but hopefully this will give you something to check out. have a good one
