Nothing fills up kite forums like Waroo vs. TD discussions...

two added points regarding the Waroo. First: turn speed--you can do a simple bridle mod where the rear lines attach which dramatically improves turn speed and makes it relaunch more easily.

Second, with only 5 struts, the Waroo is a very light, minimalistic kite. Which means it can hang in there through some very light winds. You're just supporting less weight, so the kite feels nimbler than it might otherwise.

You can probably use your TD bar on a Waroo. Anybody tried it who knows for sure?

Additionally, I have heard said that the larger TD's lose some of the magic that the 12's and under possess. While some indifferently support the 16 TD, I've heard a number of kiters critique it quite severely. On the other hand, the 16 Waroo has numerous supporters I can think of.

One side point, regarding the Xbow and the TD, I've noticed on these kites that while the pulley bar doubles the effective pull length on the bar end, the pulley setup on the kite side cuts it in half (please correct me if I'm wrong, it's just a conclusion I drew looking at the bridle setups on those kites. So I'm not sure what the reason is for all the bar pressure people complain about, I'm thinking it's just the geometry of where the center of pull is located under the bridle.

At any rate, Darlene, I hardly think you'll go wrong if you give several kites a whirl in padre. I know the Waroo smacks of cheapness, like a Kmart kite or something, but I've been shocked at how well I've liked mine.

The bar preassure was on the first Xbow, which was cured by the modification. Now it's gone as the modification became standard on all the cab kites.A lot of it was hype as it was never that much ,I'm quoting Nancy now.
People rode the kites wrong at first trying to sheet them in all the time for power, as we all know the best way to ride a bow is sheeted out so the kite has lots of speed.
As far as the travel aspect far more depower with a 2:1 system, but not everyone wants that much depower, I do , but I'm older :cry: and like things nice and easy. :lol:

Here is my read. The pulleys at the kite merely shift the center of balance, they are not used for purchase. So in actuality the second set of pulleys at the kite do not reduce what you are gaining at the bar in throw. At least I know this to be true on the CB.

Basically the pulley at the bar is like a pulley on a block and tackle, while the pulley at the kite just moves back & forth on a fixed line, changing the center of effort.

Wow, good comparison info out there. I'd agree with most of it. Biggest factor is feel. Fly them and see what you think.

After riding the Link now for a bit and really liking the feel of the kite (though I am waiting on the T2) the biggest loss for me when going to a hybrid is the loss of range. I actually arrived at the lake and said " I can't ride I only have a 12m" My 12m TD worked in all conditions. Never had to question what I had to rig, never didn't have the right kite. I really really like the relaunch of a bow as well.

I think the bows are starting to get positioned as a performance sportscar. Takes a bit of skill to get the most out of them, but when you dial them in there are few kites that perform similarly. The hybrids are a bit more like a sports sedan. And C kites are funny cars/drag racers, cheek flattening balls to the walls, power.

It has been mentioned before, I don't think you can go wrong with almost any new kite. Find one that feels good, fits in your quiver, works for our conditions (snow and water) and fits your budget and you'll be a happy camper.

Here is a mod for the rear attachment point on the Waroo. Being discussed in this Best thread: http://forum.bestkiteboarding.com/viewtopic.php?t=3484 I think this might be standard on the Waroo Pro. Reports are pretty favorable, and it's a pretty simple mod. It probably could be tried on any bow kite that doesnt use direct attachment on the rear lines. It makes the kite turn faster I guess.
