Superior Report...Sept 2.

Post by Dave Z »

Took my time today but once the readings hit 050 at 14 knots I headed up. I was glad to see Randy's surf-mobile in the Tott Lott and Jordan's Waroo in the sky as I pulled in. No crowds either. Dave Rothman was finishing up on his 13 and Randy was coming in after riding his 16 Cab to switch over to some windsurfing. From 4:30 to about 6 the wind was around 14-20 mph, waves 1-4 ft. Perfect conditions for enjoying the waves (i.e. no pummeling). Randy rode his 7.4 and I was able to get out on my 5.8. I could not have asked for a better day on the big lake - sun shining, blue water, blue sky... Took a walk down the beach before I left...the moon was up in the east and the sun was just starting to dip below the cloud bank to the west - beautiful. Forecast is for NE 10-15 knots tomorrow...might have to make trip #2.

Now I'm kicking myself. Should have gone like Randy said.

Found near shore forecast of 10-15 knots and heading up.

Glad you funhoggers had a good time. Looks like any rides had today will be there. :)

Below is supposed to be a link to a few random photos from yesterday at WI point on my newly created Flickr account? I have no idea if this will work or not!

Anyways, these were taken just before the wind picked up later in the afternoon. What a great day!

There were other people with nice looking cameras (mine doesn't really zoom) that maybe got some good shots?

Flickr account works as I see me there-funny. Arrived around 130 and it was only about 10-12 mph but enough to get out on the 16m waroo and stay up wind. Then picked up around 330 to a solid 15 which was perfect for the 16m waroo but I had to head home. Overall great session. You can't pass up a sunny day with warm waters on superior. Great to see so many kiters, I think at least a dozen where in the air at one point. Glad to meet and finally attach a face to many names. Aaron, Emily, Scott, Joe, TJ, Randy Carlson, and a few others. Running low on domestic credits so it might me a while before I get out again. Hope it happens for people today.

OK, I guess Flickr works. I have never used so I wasn't sure what was up.

I put 2 more shots on and organized with titles/comments.

Click on the set "WI Point 9-2-06" to get the running order.

1 Aaron looking for Kurt's kite
2 Aaron landing the kite
3 Kurt winding lines
4 Scott's 12 TD (w/o Scott... I think he was somewhere with his 17 at this point)
5 Randy C heading out for one of many strapless long board runs

One cool thing I found is after selecting a particular shot you can click on "All Sizes" and get a large image which I think you can also download if you want.

Any corrections or additional comments are welcome (either on the shots or how to use Flickr!). Again, hopefully someone will post some more pix of this great day!
