Kite Line Lifespan

Post by Tim S. »

after watching that winter video, seeing the huge jumps, i was wondering how often everyone replaces their kite lines. Pigtails, leaders, included.

My only expierence with spectra is kiting and seeing it used as backstays on sailboats. I know its extremely strong, but I've also seen it explode (under lots of load, and after a season or two of UV exposure)

Has anyone had a line break, does it happen often?

Nice to know our chances especially at that height over MN hardpack :)

I seem to break lines while I am getting worked, dragging in the water behind the kite. I have snapped 2 lines simultaneously in a kiteloop gone bad. They were 4 months old. Never snapped a line in the winter though.

Uv,mildew, and abrasion are the biggest enemys of your lines. Dry em out with a fan when you get home after a sesh.
