well I think the summer is here... just looked at the 10 day mfr someone please correct me if I am misreading it, but it looks like no good winds for the whole 10 day forecast period. maby just a few 10-15mph days
I think this is a good time to start thinking about the North dakota kiteing safari... who wants to go spend like a week or a long weekend in ND lookin for some wind
Last year Tighe and a few others did a litle expolring out there and it sounds like there is some great kiteing out there.
they didn't have any wind forecasted yet there was enough to ride.
I think ND has huge potential for being one of the greatest kiteing spots... there is wind just about every day

One of the backup reasons I wanted to get into kiting was because I go to school in fargo.
There is ALWAYS wind (usually its pretty strong)
drive 10 miles in any direction from fargo and you will find wide open fields to play in.
no trees or water.
edit:
if youre looking for kiteboarding, there is only lake sockalockawea. There is no other water in ND

Our North Dakota Surfari last year was great. Denis, John P, and I were a bit hush hush about it cause we were trying to get some of the photos published, and they usually like first dibs at them.
It is a sweet state. There are small farms ponds that are surrounded by 1000s of acres of golden wheat or sunflowers and not a tree in sight. There are sailable lakes every few miles. Then there is the huge Lake Sakakawea. This is a massive lake with huge swell and fingers bays the have great flat water spots. It is a massive resevoir that is very low creating huge bluffs on each side. The lake empties via a cannal 40ft wide by 20 miles long. It flows 10 ft below grade so you can rip along in glass water...just don't even try to jump or you'll end up in the grass.
The forecasts never seemed right, they always under predicted. We had rideable wind almost everyday in mid August. The campgrounds are pretty empty during the week but sounded like they fill up on weekends.
I'd definitely be interested in a trip in August again.
Here are some photos from John and I and a short clip Denis put together:

Tighe
Who needs summer?
This lake is heated by a power plant and is open 11 months out of the year. I've been to this lake in early April and was fine in a wetsuit.
The air temp was 40 but I'd say the water was 55-60F.
By July though the water gets pretty nasty.
Right SE of Center, ND.

Saw it some where on the net or when driving thru a couple of years ago.
