? Best way to fix a "L" Rip

Post by MikeM »

I’m looking for some suggestions on how to fix a “L” rip on the trailing edge of my kite. The rip runs along the strut and almost through the training edge (3”x 3”)
Oh Ya, I’m new to the sport and don’t have a good bag of smarts yet! (1 winter season)

As I figure I have two options:

1. Send it into Sling Shot and hope they can fix it right
2. Patch it with rip stop tent repair and hope it holds for the summer and then send it in to get fixed.

If anyone has suggestions or options, I will gladly take them.

Thank You

Sounds like a tear that needs attention. The stresses near the struts and near the TE are pretty major and you could blow out your entire panel. I'd suggest sending it into Airtime in the Gorge. That is what SS would recommend as well. Their repairs are top notch and if you catch it now before it gets worse it probably won't cost you that much.

Tear Aid works well - it's clear, sticky, and tough. I put a tear in my kite this winter and it held up well:

You can pick it up at most outdoor stoors or online at campmor.com

I have a 16m with a completly blown out LE with a rip that extends into the cannopy. I used Aqua Seal (fabric glue for wet/dry suites) and Dacron ripstop tape. the repair has held since last summer with no signs of it wanting to tear back out.
