Wgtn Windsurfing-Unvarnished Music Festival
Testify, testify...I want to testify!
Lots of great folks around these parts have been working over time assembling & working on, what should be an above average festival & regatta. The good folks of Wgtn have helped refill the "tiki torch fund" and we intend to set five blocks of Sailboard Beach ablaze!
This past year, we've sent emmisaries as far west as Hood River for the Nationals, many sailors stood in line to receive the (almost award winning) 2005 "Ten Minutes in Worthington" DVD that was produced by Craig Bergh.
Betwixt 300 and 500 copies have been produced and sent out all over the U.S. , Europe and beyond. ( we just don't know any better!).
This year the Unvarnished Music Fest will generate 20 to 30% more music. Music will start earlier and go later (including most of Sunday) with an invitational open stage.
The line up of musicians will not disappoint.
After seven years we are slowly starting to get the hang of this. We are as excited as ever and won't rest until we produce the best ever ....or else, until we get kicked out of town.
If you haven't been to Wgtn, we invite you, we think you will be pleasantly surprised. This festival & regatta has been created for windsurfers & musicans (the public is invited). Five city blocks (of Sailboard Beach) will be appropriated for the exclusive parking of sailors and musicians. It would be the apex of foolishness if you didn't consider showing up.
(Big thanks to Tighe for his help in promoting!)
We appreciate and look forward to your arrival.

Every year, all of us who have ever been to this event say the same thing... GO or regret you didn't. Truly a unique experience.
As some of us have talked about another summer gathering, we keep referring to the origins and memories from this event as something we aspire to recreate.
Has it really be 7 years Bill? WOW...(now isn't that appropriate)

I just want to "ditto" Tighes comment. Although it's a windsurfing event kiters can sneek off to Spirit Lake a short distance awayand come back later for the social and the music.
More and more each year this has become a family event, think of it as a family friendly woodstock with wind and less mud.

I noticed there was no mention of any kiteboarders. The lake in town is reserved for the windsurfing race but here are quite a few kiters that also really enjoy this weekend. Would it be a possibility to get something going for the kiters? It could be as simple as a gear demo or jam session.

I had a great time last year. I stopped by Spirit lake for a killer session, then went on to Worthington and enjoyed the music and food. I slept in the campsite and hung out the whole weekend.
I am not opposed to have a jam session after the windsurfing races either, but Spirit lake works well too for the non pole boarders.

There is a bit of history regarding kiters and the event. Bill and his crew have been very open to it since the beginning, but it is something we have to let him take the lead on. During the first or second year of the event there was a very close call and a kiter was pulled within feet of the walking path and their kite almost took out a dozen people or so. Onshore winds blowing toward a crowd of hundreds is not a good idea. Also, there just isn't enough room on the lake for kiters and windsurfers. Windsurfers have precidence.
Having said all that there may be times during the weekend when the dangers are minimal for experienced kiters. Chris and I rode at sunset last year, with very few others on the water in very mild conditions.
Again though, it's Bill's call. Let's respect it. Spirit is a great second option.
What are your thoughts Bill?

Woody, We look forward to Team Canada and your contingent. We will leave some ice in the lake so it will be easier to get you acclimated.
Regarding the kiter question. It has been sent to the the race committee, they'll come up with an amicable solution. I suspect they will parley soon.
(day or two?) (we got ourselves a bureacracy!)
It would be regretable (and our loss) if you took off to Spirit, lest you miss what will be happening early, mid and late afternoon.
