Kiting in Duluth
Has enyone ever tried Park point. I'm thinking tomorrow will be perfect if the current duluth forcast holds. Is anyone else up for a little wave riding tomorrow? I think I'll make the drive and try it out, unless the T-storms show up.
Eric
The wind is not up as much as yesterday.. but probably good for kiting.
Here is a link for probably the best wind check for the point. It is not obstructed like Sky Harbor. The instrument is probably about 45 off the water, right on the beach about half way down the point.

I had some great rides, but the water was so bloody cold my botties were not up to the task. Still, from 10 to 1, I was having fun. That beach I perfect for kiting, and when the wind is direct on shore you can ride about 20 feet from it on the nice smooth water from the wave backwash. kind of hard to really jump in that position however, so I just rode and popped off the waves.
Hey guys from Duluth, does it blow in the summer very often? That place will be GOOOD, with warmer weather. Next time I'll bring thicker botties.

Anybody else up for an experimental day? I'm thinking it might be fun to explore Lester and Stoney tomorrow on a low consequence day. 15-20 knots with an easterly bent seems reasonably. If neither works out, it might be nice to hit Wisconsin Point in the ship channel for some flat-water action.
Is anyone else up for trying the wave spots, even if the waves aren't totally kicking? It could still be good kiting plus the practice of launching and landing at some tricky beaches.
I've got to hit the Midwest Mountaineering Expo in the morning, but am hoping I can manage an afternoon trip up there. Anyone else?

Stony shouldn't be too bad in an east wind. I was there about three weeks ago scooping things out. The walk out to the water will be tough though because of the head size bolders that are in the water there. Bring tough booties. Awsome point break wave, I coudn't belive it.
I think an epic ride would be launcing at stony and riding to park point in a NE. You would have to have support for something like that. That would be an adventure down winder, exporing the shore along the way. Hope you have fun up there and don't freeze, I have to be down in the cities all weekend.

I happened to be driving up to Silver Bay and saw your kite, Eric! Wanted
to come and watch, but was on a schedule. Spotted some nice looking spots along the WI shore on my drive to Ashland on Thu. It was really NUKING! Happens every time I leave my gear at home.

You can get neoprene 'socks' at midwest mounteering. they are in the kayaking section, might give you some more options for cold water. i used them in HR saturday under boots, water was like 40 and i was in it for 4 hours or so.
6.0 was too much for me near shore, dale cook was on a 7.8 with a bigger board than i had and he was all over the river. he changed out when it didn't come down though, but that shit was Heman for sure in 30+! Kiters were going off!! i been practicing kiting on land, don't trust myself in water that cold though. RIDE ON!
