poor conditions - 6 inches of slush
I had a 5.5m up at the crack of dawn - as I was desperate to get a ride before leaving town. I should have known better. The slush was 6 inches thick. My board stuck to the ice like a suction cup. The kite and lines were caked with slush and ice. Terrible conditions at the moment.
Good luck. Kurt

I think it is the weight of the snow that is forcing the water to surface. Maybe Waconia being a larger lake won't have the same problem. i too went to Calhoun. It looks good from the parking lot but its all slush under the white. I think that might be it for Calhoun. Back to field hunting. Scott let us know what Wac. is like. tom[/img]

I checked out Bellaire around 3:00. My footprints instantly filled with 1-2 inches of water. The undisturded snow has 2-3 inches of damp heavy snow on top and then 4-6 inches of slush with the lower inch almost pure water. I opted not to go out on skiis but Avery and Jordan were just arriving to try staying afloat on snowboards.

calhoun surface
3:30 pm, calhoun had 3-4 inches of heavy slush underneath the snow. However, the cold conditions tomorrow may freeze it solid, so check it then. at times, I felt like I was practicing for water kiting this summer.

White Bear had one of the most difficult surfaces I've been on. Some sticky snow and a lot of slush under a crusty top. I tried to give it a go with my 8.5 Matrix but had to come in after face plating on a kite loop. I plowed a nice kicker with my face though. My harness was so frozen that I couldn't get it off and had to drive home with it on.
