Hey Gang,
thinking of flying next week to Corpus for some windsurfing. Anyone recommend some lodging for 2 adults + 3 kids? Is worldwinds the place for gear rental?
Thanks,
Woody

Worldwinds is the place for gear. They have the latest JP and Gaastra equipment. If you're just going to ride at Bird Island you can't ask for a better set up.
As far as places to stay take your pick - downtown, Gulfside, Laguna Madre Side, etc.... Gulf side in the Port Aransas area is nice for a family since you can hang out on the beach all day. It does get busy during spring break time.

When I was in middle school through high school, my family (myself, two older brothers, and parents), went to corpus almost every year for spring break. We normally stayed at the Gulfstream. It is great for a family. Spacious kitchen, bedrooms, and living room right on the beach along the boardwalk. Nice pool and shuffle board and ping pong if I remember correctly. About a 15-20 minute drive from Bird Island. I highly recommend the Gulfstream and the other condos/hotels along the boardwalk are nice as well. In fact, my brother and parents are heading to corpus and staying at the gulf stream over Easter this year (unfortunatley i blew my vacation time in hawaii already this year).

World Winds is a great rental spot if you're sailing Bird Island Basin. The owner carries the lastest gear and is also carrying Maui Sails this year. They also set up places to stay if you're interested. Its been in the upper 80's and blowing 25mph for the last week. I'm heading to BIB for our annual month long windsurfing trip. Good luck and call Don at Worldwinds.
In addition, I heard that World Winds is holding a competition similar to the Midwest Speed Quest organized by Craig Bergh. From what I hear, you use your own GPS and pay $1/day to have World Sails verify and post your top speed. I assume, at the end of the year, the money will be split into prizes for the top speedsters.
