Where's everyone staying for the snowkite jam?

Post by steveb »

I'm just about to book my hotel for the snowkite jam but I was wondering where every one was staying?.
Last year at the Garrison event it was such a gas having breakfast with Scott R and B.S.ing about kiting during consumption of cornflakes and cafeine. So I thought I would like to see where the crew would be before I booked something.

As some of you know I have worked with the snowboard company Venture for many years now. Well I have at last got Klem at Venture to build us a Twin tip with a balanced radius for kiting. I expect to have the first one in the next week or so. I'll be bringing it to the snowkite Jam so if you're a snowboarder and you want to try it come and see me at Gull lake.
If your not going to the jam let me know and we can try to get you on it before the snow goes away ( ho..f..ing...ho)

It's at Gull lake the weekend of the 20th through the 22nd. I thought it was posted in the events section.
I don't know the format, I'll find out. I think it's planned to be a freeride/competition with rails etc. I think I heard Ozone will be there but I 'll check.
I just know it's one of the 3 kite events we have locally this year and I plan to go to all of them. I really enjoy seeing everyone go off and not being the only one bitching about the wind.
I'll find out more and post again.

I made a phone call and checked. It will be a freestyle/freeride competition with give away prizes. A terrain park will be set up for the brave at heart. ( not me).
The plan is there will be a long distance race at least one of the days. ( more my style)
There will be the first ever ( I'm told) kite freeskate competition, should be interesting.
On Saturday there will be a DJ to provide muzak to kite by , leading into a party saturday night.
Representatives from Ozone, Peter Lynn and Flysurfer will be there with demos to try.
Thats what I know at the moment so it should be a good weekend, there was a posting listing kite events on Kiteforum so you should be able to find more info there.

Hey Steve,

I got a cabin at the Grand View. Bringing the whole family. The lodge has a waterslide, and 18 miles of Xcountry trails, so there is something for everyone.

BTW: all the info is at that other kiting website

Well obviously Nancy and I are. Initial scouting reports are there is actually some kind of white stuff on the lake up there. I don't know what it is but I hope it will help to hold an edge.

Scott. Nancy is a cross country fanatic. Shes had more training courses on cross country than anyone on the planet. I think this year will be her 15th or 16th Birkebeiner.
Long winded way of saying you will not have to convince her to go out on the trails.
Me ..I'll come out but I'm not passionate about it.

I'll definitely be there. It sounds like a great start to the Minnesota kiting competition season. Looking at the calendar, I think that there are more events planned in MN (3 events) than anywhere else. It shows the passion and stoke of the local people for kiteboarding.

Very Cool ,but we need to make sure we go to the events or they will vanish due to poverty for the organisors.
It's expensive , hard work to arrange an event and if the Reps of the kite companies don't see people out on their stuff they disapear and don't come back.

Oh Phooey, I'm in Chicago that weekend for training @ Corporate  .
I'm gonna have to count on you guys to have twice as much fun to make up for the fun I'm missing. Steve, Scott & Tom, I know I can count on all three of you to undertake this grave responsibility. Jim N.

Sounds great. Thanks for posting about the event. I'll be there, but I'm with Steve....might skip the obstacle park and just cruise.

Klem at Venture Snowboards calls rails the "snowboard manufacturers conspiracy" 100% gaurantee no board will last more than one season riding rails and every manufacturers warantee is void if you do.....new board sir, certainly sir..$500 sir!.
