Stroh, it is just east of Cedar Ave (Hwy 77), just north of Hwy 62. It is basically just north of the airport. No much snow on the lake, but the ice is a bit crusty, and it is plenty thick. The lake is small, but SW is decent there. About the same as Marion on a W.
decisions, decisions nokomis sounds safe but litle snow, waconia is said to be safe and 3 inches of snow and is a litle ways away. washington sounds good but is 1:45 drive for me.
nokomis is closest
mike you said crusty ice... would you say I could edge it with my snowboard ?
It is kinds bumpy ice with a thin layer of snow on top-- the kind of ice you could skate on, but would rattle your fillings out. It should be fine for sharp skis, but not ideal for a snowboard. You might want to go to a field.
Jerry and I kited most of the day in near perfect conditions. All along the north shore to the east of the park there was 3.5-6 inches of well bonded snow. Perfect edge hold with my skis. Most of the time my edges never made it down to the ice. Jerry had no problems with a snowboard. The ice is thick enough for ice houses and 4-wheelers.
I am going iceboating Saturday but may go back on Sunday. North Long near Brainerd is another option. It was great last Sunday. The ice was thick enough to park on the lake near shore.
5th time out today - It's going to be a great season!
The passion is never turned off. I am wind powered with kite-skis, kite-skates, kite-rollerblades, iceboat, sailboats 25-50 feet all year long. I have had wind powered fun at least once a week all year long for the past 4 years including 60+ yacht races a year. Just not water kiting due to the sailing commitments.
