Hey all,
I am going to be in Minneapolis December 21-25 and have heard that lake minnetonka was the place to ride, Any other suggestions? Also, I am probably only going to be able to bring one kite, any suggestions on size? I have a pretty full quiver ranging from a 6-16 but they are all LEIs, I have never tried this on the snow, but it sounds like a ton of fun. I am living in Florida right now and am excited to finally see some snow, and I will keep my fingers crossed for wind. Thanks
Going to be in town for Xmas, what to bring/where to ride

Yep, most of the crew around here prefers snow over liquid. I would try to bring 2 kites 12 and 16 or in that range. If you need something smaller than a 12 it’s to windy for your first time on snow and a 16 will get you going if the kite will stay flying. On the snow some type of relaunch is a big help because your kite will not roll on its back if you try skating towards it, it just slides. Most people use a 5th line to get the kite on its back.
Feel free to give me a call 651.503.1905 if you have any questions.

Great.
Hopefully the conditions will treat you well this Christmas.
I agree with Chris and Stroh. Check the forecasts before you come, try to bring two kites and if not er on the big size.
Minnetonka, aka Kite Island, is THE spot. Usually quite a few riders having a blast. Other local spots include Calhoun (smaller but close to downtown), and White Bear Lake (North of St. Paul). Just past Minnetonka is Swede lake where local rider Nathan Borer is creating a kite terrain park...definitely worth checking out.
Two hours to the North is Mille Lacs lake. 14miles across, this lake is a whole new world. Desolate, scattered with ice houses, ice heaves reaching 10 ft in the air, and great drifts. Snow conditions can be better up there as well.
If you have web access when you're in town, check in here. Else give Chris or myself a call 651.428.4121
