Stroh, go to Hunter's Point if you can. It is shallow a ways out like Malmo, but handles anything with west in it.

I will be a Bellaire around 2pm if you stay local. I bet Chris B. will show there as well.

Have fun!

Father Hennepin is in my opinion one of the sweetest rides in the state. Unfortunately the wind has to be pretty much NW for the effect to work. What happens on a NW is a huge amount of water gets pushed into that bay in the SE corner. The water leaving the bay leaves underneath the water coming in creating huge rolling swell. The channel going into the bay is one of the deepest spots on the lake. The conditions are second to none.

So to answer your question, no FH does not work if it goes West. WNW maybe. If it is West I'd head to Izaty's, sideshore but a deep launch, or Hunters, onshore with a shallow launch (not nearly as far out as Malmo though).

I wish I could join you, but I have a serious play date with my daughter. Enjoy.

From what their saying for tomorrow I'll be at malmo. I've had some of my best sessions there in that WNW wind. If it turns more north then father H would be the call. I'm up for another weekend of kiting, haven't been out since the crossing weekend :( . Give me a call Stroh if your coming up (320-684-2055). I'll be out for sure tomorrow, probably early to late (just got the dry suit, can't wait).

Saturday looks like a killer day for the south shore of superior. If anyone would be willing to try it, I'd be willing to drive. Any suggestions on lanches east of the apostle islands in wisconsin? Has anyone ever kited up there?

mouth of the brule river seems like it would be perfect. its all sand from what i remember, but i've never actually sailed it. there is a park right near the mouth. 4 hour drive from the cities... :(

i guess the brule would be west of bayfield, but would probably work well on a west wind and may be closer for you coming from milly. there were some posts about port wing a while back too...

Probably not as easy for kiting, but Hunters has been an epic spot in SW shifting to WNW for windsurfing, with plenty of port and starboard. I'll be up there early to mid-afternoon and may head over to Malmo later. Looks to be another awesome fall opportunity.

Terry Dunklee and I are headed to Father Hennepin - we may not get there til 1 or 1:30 and the wind should be w-nw by then. FH is fine for windsurfing if the wind is has any NW in it even if it is w-nw. In fact the best port ramps are in W-nw. It also looks like it will be straight NW in mid-to late afternoon. It almost looks to be too nice out to blow hard today but with the fall colors and sunshine I'll be happy just being on the lake today and planing.
