I have a GPS now, so I am going to try. 70 mph has to be attainable on crusty ice in strong wind. I am going to keep my eyes open for a pair of straight 220cm skis. That would help too.
Yep, that's the ticket. I have some 207's with a dowhill race cut which I love for hard crust. It's pretty wild that he was able to hit that speed with those short skis with a lot of side cut. Any downhill racer would say it's nuts to go over 50-60 on those skis.
Joe's Ski Shop had some used downhill skis, but I don't think they were very cheap.
Given everyone's interest in kite skiing (especially speed), I'll keep my eyes out for the big (or any) ski swap/show, if they have one this year. I do some work with the ski area association.
I know nothing about the aerodynamics of kites but just it seems like you could go much faster with a flat kite. I bet Joe could have gone faster with the old B5. Anyone ever compare bucket v.s foil for speed? I bet you could go pretty fast with Jerry's 3.3 mosquito pro in 40 kts!
I have one of the 7.5 mosi's and it's scary fast. without a doubt it's the fastest flying kite I've flown.MIke if you want to try it for some sprints you are welcome.
Steve Hendrickson found Goodwill to be a good source for straight ski's, I think he got a pair for $8. Happy hunting
PLEASE DON'T TELL PAM ABOUT THE LENGTH THING...Anyway, Rich was selling some Atomic 201's on the third page of the classifieds. Don't know if they're still available, but check it out. J.N. P.S: Did you see the write -up in the "Crossing" literature? Nice; it mentions that the skiers beat the snowboarders @ last years round trip!
