In case you are free tomorrow, the forecast is looking terrific! I found an excellent launch for west winds at the northern tip of Wisconsin at Little Sand Bay. There is a beautiful campground with lots of grassy rigging space, bathrooms, etc... I found this a few weeks ago.
What makes it exciting is that there is a shallow sand bar extending all the way from the Mainland to Sand Island (about 3/4 mile), with depths ranging up to just 5' deep. With 20+ miles of fetch to build up some good wave swell and the Mainland and Sand Island to funnel it in, the resulting waves on that sand bar are nuts!!!! The water is cold so bring a full wet suit or dry suit.
Directions-take Hwy 53 to Hwy 13 north through Cornucopia to Red Cliff. You will see signs to turn left to "Little Sand Bay" and it is another 6 miles. Probably 1.5 hrs from Duluth. Hope it happens and that you can make it.
Lake Superior Forecast for Thursday is West 15 - 25 knots
