Waconia - Wednesday

Post by danf »

Anyone trying for Waconia today? Is it good for a SE wind?

Check the map in the Lakes Page. SE can work if it doesn't have too much East in it. SSE is better. Any offshore nature to the wind and you get huge downdrafts from the bluff just south of the launch. It can be decent once you get out into the lake, but getting back can be challenging.

If you're windsurfing and have a floaty board you can easily schlog out to the wind line.

Depending upon the direction, I'm either hitting Ramsey or Waconia later today.

Yeah, I'm a windsurfer with a floaty board, so I should be good to go. iWindSurf.com forecast is looking like SSE later today. Hopefully it pans out.

I'm in for later this afternoon. Won't that be a little tricky kiting - the wind will be onshore.

Oh well, I'll bring my poleboards in case things get a little ugly... :?

Yes John the wind will be directly on-shore at ramsey
If you can't go directly upwind you will be in the swiming area so be carefull.

Depending upon how much East you get in a SSE wind it will sometimes clock a bit more Easterly between Manitou Island and Bellaire Beach - this gives you a more side/sideoff direction if launching from Bellaire. I've seen it happen before and it may be worth checking out...just an FYI if it's really on-shore at Ramsey.....
