waconia was awseome

Post by john mooney »

Now that Alex is a rock star . Tighe is my new hero, awseome air out there today Tighe! Just three years ago the ice was off the lake at waconia on March 9th. We have at least 18 inches right now. It could be one of the later ice out dates in history. Im guessing April 19. Whoever comes closest wins a free trip to Bemiji all expenses paid by NWA.

yeah what a great day. The great snow, the sunny sky, the great energy on the ice.

Scott R. you looked awesome on your new Rhino II. 4 liners rule. I was a bit concerned when you started from the seated position on your snowboard, dove the kite and was airborne 3x6 ft downwind. You pulled it off though with style.

I think there is a tie in who spent the most continuous time out there today. Jerry was there before I got there and I don't think ever came in. and Denis arrived just after I and went until the sun was saying goodnight. hard to let a good day pass by.

Hunter, you made the good call to get back up on the horse when the wind came down a bit. You looked dialed, though I can understand how you were tired after your walk up the lake.

Scott and I did a tally. 15-17 folks out there today at different times. Sure is great to be able to share the wind with so many smiling faces.

John thank Kris for the cookies. They hit the spot after the session.

Gotta love live today...each and every.

Yes...it was the kind of day we dream of. I didn't get out until two, but was inspired by two high school guys ripping it up on the snow with their kites and snowboards. For one of them, it was only his second time out. It might be interesting if those of you riding a lake other than Waconia could post how many were on your lake yesterday. Waconia: 18-20, Forest Lake: 3, White Bear: ? Cedar Lake: ? Calhoun: ? Medicine Lake: ? etc.
Ride...just be it!

ice out

Post by tomthebomb »

Hey John,

How is everything way out there in Waconia? My Dad and I are drinking a lot of beer and we thought that it would be a good time to guess on the ice out date for Waconia. But first, is there a vibrating bed in the room at Bemiji?

My date will be: April 15
Jimbo: April 6

Damn... it seemed like I was one of the guys who always found the time to get out in the past (for something like 10 years!) windsurfing and kiting, winter or summer. Now I feel like I've been missing out with all of the new kiters joining the winter fun.

Just a few years ago there were only a couple of people doing it in any season, to hear that there are 15-20 guys on Waconia and handfulls scattered elsewhere is VERY cool!

I run a ski race series in the winter, so many of my weekends are taken up by that. Weekdays have been overtaken with work lately. We just had our last race for the series today, and I find myself hoping for a late ice-out and lots of March snow this year! :-) Snowkiting rocks. :-)

Just wanted to share the stoke, even though I haven't been able to be out much this year... I hope I can make up some ground this month.
